You will need a phillips head screwdriver and 3/32" allen wrench.

Post pics of what you find. Also, the top shaft, thrust bearing and all the other fun stuff inside the transmission. Don't forget to check the stub axle bearings though once you get the transmission out.

Take it the rest of the way apart. Remove the idler gears and the metal gears. Get some brake cleaner or motor spray and clean everything. Lube the bearings with thin oil (like break free or tri-flow) and re-assemble. Take a plastic bag like the ones new parts come in and run it between the metal gears and the idler gears. Inspect the blue diff washer and clean the upper shaft bearings. ** replace any bushings with bearings**. Re-assemble the top shaft assembly. Now is a good time to replace the diff balls, diff rings and the spur gear. Once the spur gear is back on, tighten the diff nut until the spur gear barely turns when holding the outdrives. Too tight and it will be loose in the rear. Too loose and it will not accelerate and will burn up diff rings, balls and spur gears. Judging by the condition of the spur gear, I am left to wonder if the diff was too loose when you started.

You also need to replace the outdrive bushings with bearings.

Good luck!

should I be able to get all the bearings I need at my local shop or might they be special order?

What about the axle bushings for the rear? Are there bearings I can get to replace those?

Oh, and is there somewhere I can get the manual online for the car? I cannot find it on rc10.com

found a manual

how is this for the bearings... good deal? they claim in the listing it is every bearing needed to redo the tranny.

http://www.avidrc.com sells bearings for $1.00 a piece. you could do your entire cars for less than what that guy wants for enough bearing to do the trans only.

Does this thread include the outdrive bearings?

No. You will need to add (4) 1/4x3/8 bearings for the outdrives. I hate to suggest throwing a mint at the car, but why not swap the dog bones for CVD's while you have it apart? Also, if the front wheels arent using bearings already you might as well order those at the same time. A little money upfront will save you a ton of problems in the future.

what are CVDs and can you point me to them?

oh, and i have bearings for the front wheels :)

at $1 a bearing so far that is not throwing much money at it i think, unless there is something i am missing.
