Halgar,

Even though that thing looks crazy, I bet it would actually work ok on some things. I would bet that thing can't drill a straight hole though.

Fastang, watch craigslist in the tool section. I have seen some really nice deals on used machines.

I paid $399 for my lathe from Cummins tool (Tools now). You can sometimes find a sale going on the lathes.

Either that or buy a 15% off coupon on eBay for Harbour Freight for about $4. It can add up to a pretty big savings at the store if you buy a machine. That is what I did when I bought my Mill. Saved $44 with the discount from the coupon.

I was kidding, though I know someone that did have one of these things and was able to build some pretty nice stuff with it. He's since moved up to a small mill and now produces spectacular stuff. He goes by the name BloodClod, here's his website.
