There was another post on restoring the magnesium and aluminum parts by bead blasting them, which is the way I would go. Maybe chemical strip first and finish with the bead blasting to restore the satin/cast finish. I've done this with cast aluminum car parts.

that means i still have to find a place that will do bead blasting... oh well, i guess that's just part of playing with old toys.
