Well I finally got around to getting the body painted. Also scored a new set of original wing mounts and wire, now just to finish the wing!

Also stuffed in Novak goodies and a Reedy Modified motor all period correct. The only thing left is to find some new rear tires and on the shelf it will sit.

Great build I hadnt actually got round to seeing this post yet which is a shame but thankyou for your latest post and bringing the build to my attention. WOW what a great paint job cant wait to see it with the wing on too Only problem i do have however is that you just have got to run it at least one time. get some of the old wheels and tyres on it first and give it a blast.Make sure you have someone there to take pics of it in motion too and post them for all too see. You will be able to feel what driving one is like and with the pics remember it forever and all the that work put into the build will be more worth while in my mind. before it takes pride of place as a shelf queen/king be sure to lightly oil all the black screw heads, turn buckle bars and especially drive shafts, basically all the black metal because i have a never run new build im having to rebuild because over time all these parts rusted . Luckily i have all the new in packed screws, rods and drive shafts to cure this but i wish i had done this in the begining

I have a B44 so this sitting on the shelf won't make me lose sleep tonight

I'm afraid running it maybe actually dissapoint me. Running a B44 with a 5.5 novak and SMC lipo's is pretty addictive. I just collect certain vintage cars because of the innocent reminder of my childhood. This car represents my dream as a kid as I could never afford one. It brings a smile to my face everytime I see it on the shelf

It won the worlds a few times so cant be that bad but i know what you mean, compaired to the speed of todays buggies it is a lil slow

Its only the electrics that will let you down. Bolt in some decent modern electrics and a sweet 12 turn and you watch this car FLY!
Im running mine with 2.2" rims with modern rubber, a Quantum 3 esc, 2.4 receiever, 4200 lipo saddles and a 12 turn ORION 'V' spec motor. Man this car hauls some serious a$$!

I've been running my 870c at various tracks around Sydney and it definately turns heads. There are plenty of people who have never seen this car before and think its a new model ....hahaha.

I used to race a 501X Tamiya, these have almost identical diffs and a very similar drive train in many ways. The yoke' definately holds its own.

Absolutely no death threats from me Ive only ever run mine on old style stuff
mines a memory of probably the only thing me and my dad ever did together that we both enjoyed, hence why i had a yz870c when i was 15 some 20 years ago. The last time i ran mine was on 3000 batteries would be nice to see one of these lift the front wheels off a standing start
Ive scoured youtube for a vid of one of these @ its full potential but never found one . Back then it was way ahead of its time and seems it can still hold its title. I only wanted to restore my own and ended up with 4 the yoke certainly got me

The Dog Fighter is a weapon- PERIOD!

With a few simple mods it can be very competitive. Im running the 91 arms, hubs and driveshafts but thats about it. Only went this way so i could run the more commonly found 2.2' Yoke rims. (Its all about the offset)

The diffs need protection so I have made up 'decal' seals which do a brilliant job of keeping any dust out of the diff centre as the grease would turn into lapping paste after a short while.

Ah yes the old diff trouble. That is actually probably the best mod ive seen on a yz

rps did actually address this issue and i belive it was Jay Halsey who came up with the original solution and produced the rps line of JAMMIN products. One of the products was a new diff to reduce dust contamination. Fortunately i managed to keep one new in a packet from all those years ago and installed it in the front of my very first yz870c as seen here

another company that tackled this problem was RC PERFORMANCE SPECIALTIES in america with this little bit of kit

which is basically the same as what youve done but cost alot more

in a bid not to steal someone elses thread i say throw all the new electric gear in and show your club members what dreams really did back then (atleast once anyway cmon) and id recomend bormacs mod too as its simply ingenius

Yeah that mod certainly keeps the diff running smoother longer between builds. I cant take the credit though as it is quite commonly done on the 501x buggies. Almost no dust makes it into the diff.

Well my track is really well packed clay. In fact I run losi pink/jconcepts slicks front and rear on both my B4 and B44 so maybe running it once won't hurt?

I've been browsing through various parts here and there, and stumbled on a possible substitute diff pulley.

the Xray series of cars use a 34t pulley, with the same inner bearing size, and I beleive the same diff ball size(2.4mm), I checked the manuals for the sizes. they make them with this laybrinth seal flange setup, which might even work with the yok diff parts, since they use the same outdrive bearings as well, or maybe a ream will get them to the right diameter, much like what you guys are showing with the sticker/jammin parts. the pulley is 1 tooth small, but gearing should still be do-able, i would think.

anyway...I don't have a need right now, but would love to pick this part up to see how it fits. if anyone is stuck for a pulley, it's worth a shot?
