Body is just a Parma R11..........Radio/receiver is an older Airtronics CX2P that i've had for YEARS and NEVER Used.......Servos are just some cheapies........I Sold my NIB RC500 (still kicking myself))
so i could buy a new Team Associated SC8 to bash/race with.........(i get withdrawals when i can't get to the Toledo track to run my Serpent)
I have a Porsche 917 ( from
www.historicrc.com ) that i am going to put on one of my RC250s....I had Gulf Porsche decals made for the
Porsche also....I've yet to run my RC250 (or any old Associated car for that matter) and cant wait to take it to the Toledo track to run......maybe i'll get Rick Davis to drive mine and get
some video................I wish old school 1/8 pan cars with 3 port motors would make a comeback.........would be a GREAT class for newbies........and would be WAY cheaper than my Serpent...
(insert wallet sucking sound here)...............

it's a standard RC200 , with rare adaptators for RC250/300 rims (or thorp rims)
you have the right rims in your stock.

It was a great time and I was a bit overwelmed, I was surrounded by Team drivers who had piles of parts and multiple cars..............it was crazy. I thought my 500 was cool until I saw the 2 speed 4wd's on the track - amazing!
I also remember Butch Kloeber and his dad yelling at each other all day (pretty sure it was them, maybe his dad yelling at him - 1/8 racing was pretty serious, i think it was a big race - can't remember......maybe the McCoy?
Hey Guys, I picked up two 1/4 cars last night(#2 RUSTY) the other had a front bumper like a sprint car. It looks like it will take 2 electric motors just like my 10l.Heck it wouldn't sit on the sofa. Well lets see what happens JohnnySr. PS wish I was computer savvy Id take a pic!!!!!!

RC10resto wrote:The RC500 2wd history is great, must of had some strong backing, these cars were a little pricey back in the day but who cares you were there. How old were you in 85, did you do all the wrenching on your RC500 yourself?
Good questions Al - I was 19 and lucky enough to have met a couple guys who worked at my local Hobby Shack. We became friends and next thing I knew we were in his parents garage all night wrenching and truing tires. The RC500, believe it or not was another guy's car who moved away or lost interest (?) and I somehow took ownership

I never had the chance to build a 500 from the ground up, this car was already built so I just did light tear downs for cleaning and maintenance. I was only able to race it a couple of times because "The Ranch" was about an hour away and it took a lot of preparation and planning to run it. Also, this was at the time I had my first RC10 (my first new RC car - my others, 12e & 12i were used Recycler buys) and the Race Prep run dirt track was only 10 minutes away so off-roading took over (much easier, cleaner and cheaper to run).
So with out my friend I would have never had the chance to run a RC500 back in the day at the "Ranch".
Just found this thread. Absolutely fantastic Brian that you were actually there back in the day. Back then I never had the guts to try 1/8 and didn't have the money. Funny enough now it's the only class I race.
