What's weird is that the porsche and the for gt40 have similar paint jobs.

i'm sure both of them being sponsored by "gulf" had something to do with the paint jobs being similar.

Gulf John Wyer Team cars, first came Ford GT40's and then Porsche 917's. Just different years.

If you want to get technical, it had everything to do with John Wyer, whom had a relationship with Gulf, Ford, then Porsche.
