Original Optima is iconic and will be very popular. With regards to chain drive.. If Kyosho took the time to address the Scorpions weakness and design a slipper as well.. Well let's just say they will be very creative with the optima.stulec52 wrote:Mid maybe, but original Optima??J.M. wrote:Please oh please Mr Kyosho, I'd very much LURVE for the Optima to be rereleased also. The Optima would outsell any of their other cars easily!
Nah, I don't think it'd be that popular.
and really, chain driven car today??

Re: Kyosho now on the re-re bandwagon - Scorpion
I anticipate that if Kyosho re-released the Optima, they would make it belt drive and also give it some form of slipper.
I hope they didn't somehow decide to make it shaft I would cringe at that thought
Maybe they will re-release the Mid and make it dual belt
I agree that the original Optima is an Iconic car and a very strong candidate for re-release
The other one my money is on is the Ultima and seeing as there is a fair amount of parts sharing in the gearbox between these two any upgrades to the Optima box could be easily carried over to the Ultima

I wonder if offering the Optima as a belt drive is straying too far from the original design, even if it's absolutely a better idea for performance & maintenance? The chain drive would be fine if it didn't loosen up so easily. Maybe a chain of stronger steel and a better way to adjust the tension so that it stays put would be ideal, yet keeping the chain-drive "feel" of the car...the Optima definitely had a unique sound.

The chain is the biggest draw for me. In not saying I would not buy one if they did a belt version, but i wouldn't be as excited. The chain cars can survive- look at the Dominators, Radiants, etc. They were still kicking belt drive arse in their heyday. With a modern brushless tho...hard to say if a ladder chain would survive. I would expect to see a belt

I bet a chain would stretch like nobody's business with brushless...unless they beefed up the chain.

If Kyosho were to rere the Optima I can only imagine that the belt conversion could replace the chain system or at the very least be one of the first upgrades for this car.
From memory I upgraded my original racer with the Stinger belt conversion set.

The LHS I purchased my kit from sold me the alloy pulleys in the kit I got. Perhaps they swapped the belt out and told me it was for my Optima. Or was there an Optima conversion kit that had those alloy pulleys?aip47-2008 wrote:I thought the Stinger belt was 254xl.
I certainly never got that little lexan cover with it.
Cost me $100 back then.

Wow, I can't believe how inexpensive they're going to be selling them for. You would think it would have cost them a lot just to make the molds and whatnot again. Hell, I might even buy one and I'm more or less anti re-release.

I am stoked about this re-release. Has anyone heard an "Official" release date yet?
