Re: Dadio's 3D Printing Stuff
Yes I'm staying with Fusion 360 despite the new restrictions on the free version , after all the scare stories I found in reality it really doesn't affect what I'm doing , when the said only 10 files can be worked on at a time nobody really knew what it meant but what it means is you can only have 10 file windows open simultaneously , I generally only have one open at a time . the other changes only really apply to advanced milling processes and certain types of file exports I don't use .
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.

Re: Dadio's 3D Printing Stuff
The tracks for the Universal carrier arrived today and I'm really pleased , I could not get measurements for them anywhere and I guessed at around 30mm and I'd designed for that as a Max and hoped I would not need to alter the design , as it turns out they are 25mm and that's great news as it gives me space and will look good as well .

Re: Dadio's 3D Printing Stuff
Finally found some time to start designing the road wheels and sprocket for the Universal carrier , I've started printing the road wheels in ABS with TPE tires and a test sprocket that was just a smidge off so its waiting a reprint , no photos yet but here's the screen shots off Fusion 360.

The sprocket is far from finished but i wanted to save plastic until i knew it was working well .

Re: Dadio's 3D Printing Stuff
Finally feels like I'm making progress , i think all the wheels and sprocket are good , also the front Bogie is in advanced prototype , sorry about the hodge podge of screws .

The yellow plastic is ABS and the tires are TPE (a rubbery material) .

Re: Dadio's 3D Printing Stuff
Finished off the front bogie and fitted the springs , unfortunately the springs are too strong so I'm now waiting for another 8 to arrive , I also completed the rear bogie design and printed it .

Photo's tomorrow , next is to design the connection points on the chassis to fit the bogies but it looks easy enough , then a tensioner system for the front wheel .

Re: Dadio's 3D Printing Stuff
I've now got all the wheels and bogies finished with the softer springs , i also modelled up the transmission ,receiver , multi function unit and speaker , placed them in the hull and made mountings , the speaker in its plastic box would not fit so i removed it and made a small mounting for it .

Re: Dadio's 3D Printing Stuff
Test print of rear hull , mostly really good but the mounts for the RX need a little adjustment and i might move the tracks out another mm for greater clearance of the bogies .

Probably going to have to add ballast up front as it already seems tail heavy .

Re: Dadio's 3D Printing Stuff
Spent ages today adding rivets to the front of the model , also printed a revised rear hull and installed the transmission and electronics , took some more time to further spilt up the front of the model to minimise supports .

Re: Dadio's 3D Printing Stuff
This is such a cool "little" project. What is that multi-function unit from? I have no need for one, but it seems like a very handy device to have on hand, just in case a project arises.
Edit: Just re-read and saw that its a Heng Long combo ESC/RX.

Re: Dadio's 3D Printing Stuff
The electronics and transmission are from a Heng Long 1/16 Tiger Tank the older generation of Heng Long tanks like mine are 27meg with crystals , they have a separate RX that has a lead that plugs into the Multi Function Unit (MFU) , the MFU then has a built in ESC so both motors plug into it but so does everything else on the tank , turret rotation , main gun elevation , speaker for simulated sounds , smoke generator for exhaust etc etc , they all plug into the MFU and respond to signals from the transmitter .
The more recent generation of Heng Long tanks have gone to modern 2.4 gig and I'm not sure what the electronics are like but from reviews it sounds like they are greatly improved , I just had an old tank laying around to rob for parts and won't be fitting anything other than the transmission and sound speaker as I don't have much room , theoretically I could have a Bren gun with sound and simulated muzzle flash and maybe a driver who's head turned by using the turret turn function but I don't think I'll get that far .
