My Old Racer
Like so many others, after stumbling on this site it made me fall back in love with my long stored away old r/c cars. I started this hobby in the late 80's and have been on and off again with it ever since. In the past when I got the itch I just bought something new and as we all know they loose ther coolness factor quick because it was never the same as the old days.
So after digging out my old rc10t racer what I found was a sad shape peice of my R/C racing history. I had left my truck uncovered in my body shop for 5 years before I packed it away. What a job it would be to bring it back and perserve the paint and all those vintage decals.
This truck was givin to me as a Christmas gift in the early 90's by one of my best friends who we raced buggys together. We were racing buggys together and the truck scene hit, he got a new truck and I was young and could not afford one, so one day we stoped by the hobby shop and he and his wife bought it and turned around and said Merry Christmas. So we raced them every weekend for a few years and had a blast. The last time I ran the truck was at the BUDS National Race where I ran 4th in the A-Main out of about 75 truck entrys. Started second after wining both of my heat races and took a early hit and lost a tie rod in the A- main.
SO after many enjoyable long late nites I have brought it back to its former glory where it will finally retire as a shelfer.
Sorry for the long story , but I read on here you guys like them that way !

Nice story, and old rig.
Amazing what a little soap and water can do to bring something back to life.

Are you sure that's the truck you used to race? That thing looks almost new!
Great story, sweet truck. I bet you and your (awesome) friend never thought that 20 years later you would still have it, and love it more than ever. Now you have to keep it forever!

Re: My Old Racer
Thanks for the nice comments. I am keeping it and I am still good freinds with the guy that bought it for me. He still has his truck as well, his was modded alot more than mine. He uses his still to bash around. I wanted to redo it and his orignal gold pan for him as a payback, but he has yet to bring them by the house. I think he is very happy with just a couple of dirty old racers.

I have my dad to thank for it still looking new. When I got it, he told me that I should only use it at the race track that I had other cars to play with on the street. I didnt understand at the time but he told me "Bill Elliot dosent drive his race car on the street why should you". So I followed my dads advise and it has only seen the track and no street use. Thanks dad

Re: My Old Racer
that's why my original graphite team car is so nice. i never played with that car. i bought and built it to race, and that's all i ever did with it. i had other stuff to rip around outside. but racing 4-5 nights a week, i kinda got enough of an r/c fix. so, really never played with anything outside anyway.greazy wrote:justinspeed79 wrote:Are you sure that's the truck you used to race? Re: My Old Racer
I never got to race 4-5 night a week but, I did race every Sat. night. After I started racing playing around outside was not fun to me anymore so I didnt do it very often. Thanks to this site I will be back on the street as soon as I get my runner project finished.
