Well David, it appears someone put bearings in your transmission. Perhaps one was more enthusiastically lubricated than the other...?Asso_man! wrote: What surprised me when opening the tranny was that one idler gear is clean while the other one is greasy. I'm 100% sure the car has never been run and that it is unaltered in any way...
A thought.
So far noony and rctenracer have the goods.

I haven't torn down (or even dug out) my rubber stamp Edinger car yet.

Re: Ok all you early Edinger kit guys..
I have the 6 gear trans that Im not using, il open it up to see what's inside if it has this wonderful eclip who wants it? I have no intention of using the 6 gear for anything onther than to sit in the shelfer I am making. so if someone needs that part to make their project complete then they can have it. Ill let you know whats in it soon.

No worries D, it's one of those things that 99.998% of the populace wouldn't care about...except scr8p...
d'oh!
Actually it is one of the items that got overlooked in the identification on a truly early Edinger kit. It seems just about anyone can find the spring cups and fiberglass battery straps...
This does make another way to "prove" an early car.
We'll see if a bunch of early gearboxes find their way on to e*bay all of a sudden...
In fact I'm interested to see if this happens.
Whatever happened to liquorboxracings "boxster" project, anyway?

David, what about that other Edinger car? You didn't toss it in the trash, did you?

Re: Ok all you early Edinger kit guys..
all i need is to see inside this trans, and i'd be a happy man...................templeofspeed wrote:it's one of those things that 99.998% of the populace wouldn't care about...except scr8p...
being as though my kit box contains 2 pieces of paper saying that the gear pivot in my kit could differ from the one in the manual, the one with the nut is probably correct for the car. i just want to confirm it.
Re: Ok all you early Edinger kit guys..
no dice on the e clip, its a nut and let me tell you someone either welded the thing, used jb weld or who knows what on it. It isn't going to come off unless its cut off, you can't even get a wrench on it to try to take it off!
This has to be another weird thing ive seen with building these cars. Im glad I did take it apart now I can see how it works and it needed to be cleaned anyway before it goes back together.

Re: Ok all you early Edinger kit guys..
I still have it and as it has the large spring cups (which will go on my "late-early Edinger" car which I plan to transform in a true boxter car, already found the alloy rear spring collars) it most probably have that darn e-cliptempleofspeed wrote:David, what about that other Edinger car?
