funco/ rough rider body

Post by germanrc10gt »

hi guys racer88 is offering some painted bodies on ebay right now. i'm wondering if the rough rider
body he sells is the same as the funco body that sits on the rc10 (they could be repros by mr.lexan :?: ). is there a difference between the original rough rider body (shape, measurement) and the rc10 funco? what i actually don't like about the funco is the fact that there is a half an inch gap between the body and the nose plate (or did he just position the body too much towards the rear of the car) any picture here in the forum of freshly mounted and painted funcos from mr.lexan? i'd like to see some. i'm thinking about starting a srb project and i would like to get a couple of these bodies, too. thanks.

I have that body but it is not painted or mounted but if you see where the back of the body lines up on Ebay then I set the body on a chassis and there is not a gap at the front at least that's my guess. So I'd say mrlexan's body is longer than the Ebay body. But I've been wrong numerous times so maybe someone else has the definitive answer, I think Jay may be back by Saturday.

If you notice on the back of the painted body on Ebay the detail of the WV engine is painted and a wing would spoil that. Definitely without wing.

he also has an unlimited supply of gearcovers... maybe he 's popping the bodies himself?
Got to say the paintwork looks fabulous in the pics (which are also topnotch)

My funco is painted but I don't have an rc 10 to fit it to, sorry.

I found this picture of a painted Funco SS on a RC10 and it doesn't show any gap at the front. This picture was posted previously on this website but not by me.

yes that looks like it fits much better on this chassis or maybe it is a different body i.e. the real funco and not
a rough rider repro that might sit on racer's rc10. anyway, i like that body (still without wing).

It looks mighty much like the funco single seater body I got from Jay. Maybe it is mounted alittl more forward, but probably the viewing angle also hides alittle of the gap between the frontplate and body.

On a side note: I saw some pictures of the real car that stood model for the Tamiya Rough Rider: the Bullet Bel Ray, or something like that. And guess what: the name Funco was not an invention of Bolink: it was the model name of that buggy. In other words both bodies were modeled after the same lifesize buggy.
It's pretty nice: with much smaller side pods than the rc versions. The pictures are on TC, somewhere.

Funco was one of the early off road companies that made buggies back in the early days of the Baja 1000, etc.

It's not obvious on the picture you posted Al, but to fit that Funco body on a tub chassis you would need to trim the rear part of the side pods, which also means you can move the body forward in order to eliminate the front gap...
