Part Resources

Post by fred2000 »

Sorry if this is a lame question, but as I look at my 870c I think i need a new answer this this question(s).

So where do people get parts for there vintage yoks? I have looks at ebay but it all seems pretty static. Are there any other good resources out there to check out for parts?

Also if I am correct the 870c was one of the first YZ-10 cars. How interchangeable are the parts on the older and newer YZ's? I mean could you slowly morph a 870c into a 95 worlds or the like? Or would the arms of the older YZ's fit mine?

Thanks, Fred

Fred,

Part sources are tough for the 1 gen YZ10 (through 1990). Ebay and here are probably the best bet, but YokomoUSA still has a limited selection. Also, many of the YR4 parts are a direct fit (those part numbers start with ZR). A few of the newer models have some parts that fit, but those are very limited, like gear adapters and such. If there's a particular part you're looking for, just ask and we can point you in the right direction.

The suspension design started to change with the '91 model. If you could find the parts, I do believe that the '91 and '93 suspensions would fit on the earlier chassis (the bulkheads are the same (or very similar) between the 870c chassis and the '91 and '93) but those parts are real tough to find. You'd need arms, universals, shock towers ... it'd be easier and cheaper to just pick up a whole car! Once the '94 model appeared, the bulkheads, arms and such are no longer compatible.

Does this mean that EVERY part on the YR4 that starts with a ZR is a direct fit for the 88 to 90 YZ10? If this is true, does anybody know where I can chase down a parts list and a diagram for the YR4. This would be very helpful!
Thanks,
Doug

no, not every. that's why I said many ...

Go to Yokomousa.com and download all of the YR4 manuals. I can't remember which one has a part list with pictures.

also be carefull as the parts started deviating already more on the YR4-M2

The parts which are compatible for the YR4 original are : motor pod central axle, pulleys, slipper, steering with built-in servosaver, gearboxes and gearbox covers, diffs, rear belt, rear and front wheel uprights for 91 works and higher, hingepins, balls and cups.
The black short shocks also are identical to the long black shocks except for the spring shaft and body lengths; basically all their plastic parts are the same.
