alright, so i have my 10t torn all apart for clean up and I'm trying to decide what to do with the chassis. its pretty chewed up on the bottom. I'm trying to decide between: strip it and leave it bare aluminum, strip it and repaint black, or strip it and shoot it with duplicolor metalcast to make it look like blue anodized (to go with my blue RPM arms). below is a pic of the chassis as is and a few prototype tranny braces in bare aluminum and the duplicolor metal cast.
I also have a few original white parts left and I'm trying to decide if i want to dye them when i dye my new RPM tranny. I know a lot of guys say keep the white parts cause they are getting hard to find but is that as a big a deal with the 10T as it is with the RC10? all opinions welcome.
if your gonna run it, get it powdercoated... have them sandblast it before the coat. should come out nice.. reanodizing is a waste if its a runner, will come right off again. powder will hold up a little better.
honestly for cheap, strip it with yellow Easy off oven cleaner, sand bottom rough spots with medium sandpaper, then fine sandpaper, then some white scotchbrite pads with some aluminum mag polish.
thanks for the tip. i have some nice paint stripper that I'll use then I'll sand it out like you said. we'll see how it turns out. oh and I think i'm just going to dye the parts. they aren't the nicest. lots of scraps and what not.
paint stipper is not going to remove anodizing. it's not paint. oven cleaner is gonna be your best bet. unless you have a glass bead cabinet. or you could always send it to the guy on ebay and have it acid etched.
doesnt really leave a nasty finish, it looks like crap afterwards, but its easily polished out with aluminum polish and a rag. make sure to leave it in long enough to remove the anodizing as well as the color. i have left aluminum peices in anywhere from 5 minutes to a hour. 10 min is usually long enough for a black chassis
What do you guy's prefer? Dyed or not dyed white parts?
I'm piecing together a RC 10 for a shelf queen. The buggy will be on it's way in a few days. The parts look OK from the pics but some may be a little beat up. I think I can whiten them up with...

Yes, it's definitely a matter of choice. I can appreciate box art cars with beautiful new white parts just as well as I appreciate people who go their own way and dye parts to their preference. I've dyed parts on numerous occasions to produce the...
I think they're plastic. Anyone tried to dye that?

is this enough?
note that the offset is far different from the older YZ10 wheels.
If anyone has/knows of universals or CVD's that can replace these, but have a 5mm axle with pin hole and 4mm tread on the side below 10 cm... Please make a similar...
I think this is going to lead to lots of rolling eye smilies  thrown at the newby but we will see. As it stands I have my lovely RC10CE :) , a 6010 that needs some work :? and the future vision of a composite project using parts I got from...

These are the parts I'm going to put them in the trade section to try and get a direct swap for black ones, I think they might be too good to dye. I will specify what's up for swap there. :)
I recently started my build on my third ebay score, a A stamped gold chassis buggy. The white parts aren't so white and I was wondering if you guys would simply dye them a different color or bleach the white parts altogether? I'm enjoying reliving...

HI!... Forgot to add. If the parts are pretty dirty just soak them in CLR kitchen/bathroom cleaner for 24 hours. The dirt/grime just falls off. It also lightens them up slightly. Then use a small scrub brush and pipe cleaners to clean the parts and...
what does every one think about dying the older nylon parts. does it hurt the value or is it everyone is dying everything black to hide how ugly and yellow nylon gets over the years. im just curious on how everyone feels as i found some old...

if so......thats sweet.........ever want to get rid of them let me know
Yes they are original RC10 size. I don't think I will get rid of...
I just won a set of black Andys rear arms on ebay (have not received it yet) and I was asking myself if I should dye my RPM worlds arms. Any suggestions? I think it will look nice and leave the other AE parts stock. How about the blue parts (tubes,...

yea, the arms mount closer together on the chassis so they are longer without increasing overall width. (you gotta narrow the rear of the chassis, and they have special a-arm mounts that hug the stealth)
Yep, figured the more you did the more you would notice but wanted to just mention the one item is enuf to notice a difference around my house. There are more we do but hey...this thread was about dye

IMHO, for black, RIT liquid dye is definitely the way to go.
One other tip: the parts should be CLEAN; obviously no dirt, but no oil or grease, either. This goes for NIP, as well. Many new parts will have a mold release film that needs to be...
