MIP cable kit RC10

Post by eddy »

Hi all
Need help on building the cable car, what I'm asking is what is the pitch of the gears in the front gearbox and how many teeth on them too please, I'm slow collecting parts to to build the car.
Cheers

Wow... crickets for such a cool project...

What all parts have you collected so far? Are you wanting to build the four-wheel drive system from scratch?

48 pitch, BTW. ...I'd use the top shaft/diff/case from a stealth as a starting point for the front (Stealth rear too, obviously), or nab an RC104WD front end off eBay and modify that... would be easier.

...or buy an RC104WD and adapt a cable drive to it... that'd be the easiest way.

Hi mate
I have two shapeways mip gear box casing, a cable, cable tube , c hub carriers , hubs , just need to know how many teeth are on the top shaft in the front gearbox , I have worked on how to do the front drive shafts.

I'm not familiar with the cable system but it feeds off of the top shaft in the main transmission right? If you can give us the tooth count of the gears in that transmission and the front diff the proper front top shaft tooth count can be worked out.
Consistency is the key I keep misplacing.

Wow, that's a good stack of parts. Maybe GoMachV, scr8p, or someone will chime in on the exact tooth count you need but... does a standard 45 tooth rear diff assembly fit in the 3D printed front housing? If so, and you have a 2.25 trans, then you'd need a 20-tooth top shaft up front to match the 45-tooth diff gear. Alternatively if it's not a standard rear diff gear but you have the gear for the front diff, divide the number of teeth on it by 2.25 and that's your answer. Numbers work the same for a 2.6 trans just divided by 2.6. Or, like RogueIV said, count and divide the rear diff gear by the top gear to get the trans ratio and use that to determine the tooth count for your front top shaft.

...at least, that's my 2.6 cents worth.

It's not a MIP main transmission? Looking at this it isn't a standard RC10 trans.

Never said it was a standard RC10 trans, just making assumptions on the gearing for mathematics' sake since eddy hasn't said what the main trans gearing is, if he knows, if he has gears for either, etc.

I just wasn't certain on the gearing thats in the MIP transmission he has. I thought those were a different ratio than stealth's 2.25:1 ratio

Posting pictures on this site is super easy. See my visual aid below.

If the pictures are too large, simply screenshot them, and upload the screenshot picture.

Me either. Probably is a different ratio, likely steeper if I had to venture a guess...

...and based on the pic he posted while I was typing... if I count right it's 40/16... so 2.5 ratio. If the front and rear diff gears are the same he should need a 16-tooth top shaft... if the front diff gear is different, then front diff gear divided by 2.5 it appears.

I have counted the bottom gear and it was a 29t and after looking at photos and trying to work it out for the top gear it could be a 16 or 18

40 tooth diff... 16 tooth top...

A clearer photo of the gears would be more definitive but... is this a pic of your parts or a pic you found online?
