In 1998 Kyosho released their latest generation Inferno 1/8 Nitro off-road buggy, the MP-6. Its designation, short for "Model Project #6", this sixth generation that was started by the Burns MP-1 in 1991 was an evolutionary design that resulted in a model largely similar to its MP-5 predecessor. The MP-6 would ride on a longer (1/4 inch) and wider (1/8 inch) 8-degree kickup chassis that was previously available as part of the MP-5 Long Wheelbase Conversion Set, and the lower arms, hubs and knuckles of the 4-wheel independent suspension would remain the same while adjustable camber rods replaced the rear upper a-arms. The steering system was carried over unchanged too, with twin bellcranks, spring loaded servo saver, and adjustable tie rods tucked under a reinforcing top plate. Aluminum bodied coilover Turbo shocks with adjustable spring collars from the MP-5 were suspended by new aluminum shock towers fore and aft. The drivetrain was unchanged as well, with gear diffs mounted front, rear, and center inside sealed cases driven by metal dogbones and stopped by a pair of single disk brakes. Universal shafts up front and dogbones in the rear turned 3-1/8 white nylon 5 spoke wheels wrapped in W-5648H hard-compound X-pattern tires. The clear lexan body and accompanying wing that were introduced on the MP-5 donned this new model as did the molded plastic wing and mounts, sealed radio box, flip top fuel tank, motor mounts, rear stabilizer bar, and bearings. Sold as an unassembled kit less engine, exhaust, electronics and radio.
The MP-6 would also be released in a partially assembled Sport model with a thicker non-countersunk aluminum chassis, smaller differential gears, preinstalled GS12R engine, exhaust, and numerous blue anodized aluminum components to match the blue plastic wheels and wing, less electronics and radio.
At the top of the line was the MP-6 International. Replacing the EVO designator for the top spec model the International was sold as an unassembled kit with hard anodized aluminum chassis, Teflon coated aluminum bodied coilover shocks with adjustable spring collars on revised shock towers, ball bearing supported steering bellcranks, turnbuckles, heat dissipating motor mount, steel main gear, a pair of double disk brakes, universal driveshafts and axles, front sway bar and fuel filter. Less wheels, tires, engine, exhaust, electronics and radio:
