it's actually a one-piece bi-level wing, I still have to cut 2 slots right and left...

To liven up an decades old thread.
Why were full circular diff rings used on off road cars when the D and double cut style started to be used for on road?
It seems that the ability to run a loose differential would be most needed off road.
