MY GOLD PANS

Post by COZINATOR1960 »

Hi,

These were gifted to me by a friend.Image

I have drooled over this car since 1986!

I'd like to go modern on electronics; done winding my own motors.

Budget is tight.
I have yet to drive this model, yet.

If you run with the big tires and a modern brushless motor, then the chassis with the stealth gearbox (has no wheels right now) seems like the right one to use. The chassis with the big wheels has a lot of shocks!

Did someone replace the nose tubes with shocks?

I looks like you have one complete car from the parts there minus nose tubes, transmission brace, gear cover, body and wing

If youre on a budget, this speed controller and motor combo should get you rockin. I have bought many of these and they're great for the price.

Good luck with the build.

Thank you so much guys for the quick response!

These were the answers I was looking for.

Can anyone recommend a budget transmitter+receiver combo for this setup?

That Hobbywing brushed motor is a 555, 5 slot. It's a slow crawler motor.

But there are plenty of other options.

Yeah, shocks for nose tubes, lol.

They will be removed.
So will the huge tires.
My goal is: close to stock chassis+ modern electrics.
Battery will be 18650 cells for now.
It will be for fun only, not competition.
A "basher"?

and the stealth transmission is not working; internal slippage?

The diff might need rebuild, or the external slipper clutch might need adjustment.

What is your budget? And what features do you need?

If you are wanting something basic, I prefer (new) takeout RTR parts. They are all over Ebay, most for well below market price.

Thanks so much gang!

I looked at the stealth transmission on the "double-A" stamped chassis and it looks like the round metal plate(slipper or clutch?) or washer is missing; just a nut, spring and black spur gear. Also, a wheel bearing is seized.
The guy that did the shock bumper mod was a "hack"; he had forced too long screws through the trans brace making cracks in trans case.

I noticed after removing the long screws that I have direct view into the gearbox, thinking of shooting some gear oil in there.

ADMIN: Should I start a new thread since this mechanical?

JUICEDCOUPE:
Budget is tight. Like $100 a month, max. Also, "features"? This will be strictly for play, not competition. Sorry I missed your questions. My previous experience with the R/C world was working in a hobby shop doing sales(1986); always wanted one.

I started with a grasshopper and eventually had KYOSHO TURBO OPTIMA 4WD. Fortunately, I have an Electronics background and I could bring my radios to the RF lab I worked in. :D

Thanks for your time and help; it is much appreciated!

Oops! Correction: the gold pan with 3 gear transmission is stamped: "B".

Pic I took closeup of spur gear "image size too large" to upload. So, imagine just the plastic gear, no ball bearings or retainer plate that would be held by the compression spring and nylock nut.

If I turn the gear by hand, right side drive turns, only. Thanks to a member mentioning that stealth transmissions are available on ebay. :D
