Re: Masami's '87 Worlds Schumacher Cat
These are the best pics that I have been able to pull off the web, of what I know to be the real thing (Doug might have some better pics). Compare and come to your own conclusions, until he breaks the suspense.

It's a really nice copy. There is no suspense. Very nicely done, though.
There are differences in the decals and paint from Masami's car. Plus, when have you heard of Masami using Acoms radio gear?

By comparing the two photos, there are some very subtle differences like the width of the outline on the numbers and the bit of the upper fiberglass brace protruding from the front of the body, but it was difficult to really tell at first. NICE JOB!!!!

Re: Masami's '87 Worlds Schumacher Cat
I have a sneaking suspicision this is the real deal guys -
To me it look's modded and a little bit non standard - besides I wrote to Schumacher racing recently asking them to organise a vintage race pointing to this forum so you never know, maybe someone was allowed to photo it for here
Masami's cat - lovely piece of history - I wonder if Masami had of drove the later cars like the Cat 2000 etc would Schumacher got that illusive next title for 4wd ?
Guess we've got to wait for the author to reply!

Re: Masami's '87 Worlds Schumacher Cat
LOL, it's not the original car. The decals are re-makes and not 100% accurate. There are bleeds in the paint and it doesn't match known photos of the actual car. Again, Masami NEVER used ACOMS receivers. He races to this day for KO radios. The author of the car should be very proud that there is this much confusion with the original, but it'd definitely not the car Masami raced in the '87 World Championships.
Re: Masami's '87 Worlds Schumacher Cat
Ok guys I ll put you all out of your misery. I put the last picture in, in the hope someone would notice the Acoms receiver So hats off to Eau Rouge However I must agree with AD RS1600, Masami didn't keep all his cars as the original Cat was given back to Schumacher to say 'thank you' !
The car you see in this post is a FAKE!
I wanted to celebrate 21 years of this car winning the Worlds and thought this was the only fitting way of doing it. The base car is my very own original XLS that I have had for 20 years now (so has seen some use) fitted with all new body, wing and undertray painted by me. The hard work and the person I must take my hat off to is Willy http://www.pandaGFX.com Chang. This man is amazing. The decal project has taken him the best part of 3 months and the only thing I could give him was an original Schuacher decal and lots of scans and measurements.
So now if you have a XLS body new, you too could own Masami 87 Worlds Cat

Re: Masami's '87 Worlds Schumacher Cat
Another give away is the top plate used...on Masami's car there are some 'protrusions'' at the front but on the replica there are non. I did notice the use of bullet connectors with the first few pics but it was not enough to go on as far as cars used in that era. Overal good effort...would have been nice to see a ''naked'' shot of the real thing.
Re: Masami's '87 Worlds Schumacher Cat
I'm already on to Mr. Chang for a set of the decals!
You know I have a clear body just sitting here doing nothing.
Paint looks straight forward, but if you could tell me the exact colours that would be a big help.
Great work !!

Pretty cool pic of Masami with his winning cars and throphies (Note: the green CAT in the bottom left hand corner of the pic). In an old Yokomo catalouge there is another pic which is similar but it stretches over 2 pages!

Fantastic job on the lookalike! What did he charge you for the custom decal work?
You wouldn't happen to be Ewan Chalker, would you?uzzi wrote:Pretty cool pic of Masami with his winning cars and throphies (Note: the green CAT in the bottom left hand corner of the pic). In an old Yokomo catalouge there is another pic which is similar but it stretches over 2 pages!

Re: Masami's '87 Worlds Schumacher Cat
Wow, very well done that is an absolutely stunning replica! I bet Masami would struggle to know whether it was his car or not from that picture lol!!
Top marks with the stickers as well, that must have taken a unbelievable amount of effort... I did think the cat had seen some use so might be the real thing? I remember seeing the Masami Cat at Schumacher racing and it was covering in similar dust and debris from the race... oh and the original very first CAT mocked up!
Absolutely love the picture of all his cars and trophies, he surely has got to be one of the best drivers of all time. Can anyone tell me whether it is a CAT XLS on the bottom left row? I know Masami was a Yohomo man after this drive, sadly for Schumacher...
Might be worth reruning a few of those stickers, i'm sure there would be some takers! I certainly don't like the modern schumacher graphic with the line and arrows twisted....

Would it be possible to buy a set of those decals? On a side note, does Kamtec already have the CAT XL bodies ready for sale?
