I'm not sure on the differences in shocks as I don't really know Traxxas all that well, which is probably why I ended up with so much stuff trying to figure out what fits what, lol. When you look at pictures of proper SRT's the Traxxas Big Bores "look" right although they are obviously different. Yes by today's standards they aren't really big Bores, not compared to the likes of the GTR shocks and such.

Where's Mr. Pine Tree when you need him?

I had a look last night for something and It turns out there are five of these Traxxas rabbits

As much as the blue shocks are great a "Pro TRX" style build just isn't right with AE shocks. I went ahead and ordered a set of 5862's.
There were other options. Just saying.

That said, I do like the big bores. Despite not actually being a big bore shock, they are very smooth.

Those shocks are great as well but are huge. For a modern runner/racer they are perfect. I want to keep this looking semi period correct. As much as I hate to say it Traxxas shocks have always been pretty good

So maybe I'll just buy a set of 5862 Big Bores, the rest of the truck has a fair bit of Traxxas upgrades, so it's only fitting to use them.
Are the 5862's just assembled w/springs "for Slash" but they utilize the 2600 series bodies? Which, one could argue that they were, in fact, "big bore" at the time of their release. Certainly not big bore by "today's standards".

OK, this is me leaving, this is me leaving. I will transform back into a thumbs up thanker for all subsequent posts from the "OP". Thank you and have a wonderful "winter months observances season".
Traxxarse people..... *sigh*.... :P

Oh yeah, it's Summer, by the way ;)
 oh yeah, duh
Hope you're doin' something fun.

They are the same size as RC10 shocks. I have Traxxas pistons in some of my AE shocks.

However, I believe that Kyosho Golds were smaller.

The largest of the Tamiya CVA's were larger than any of these.

The RPM case is said to eat idler gears but when I tried to research it further I'm not so sure it's as big of a deal as claimed. I'll give it a try and make my own opinion. I went with the stock internals.

I chose the original slipper design to keep it somewhat old school. I'll have to fill the spare slipper peg holes with more pegs..... The pegs weren't fantastic then and I'm sure they aren't fantastic now

I cut the case to make it look less Traxxas-ish. I would have liked to cut it back a fair bit further but due to RPM's strange gear cover bracket a new design bracket would have to be made and I didn't want to ruin this case just yet.

Since I am NOT the seller, I thought I'd post this here. There is a Graupner Racicator (1) / Traxxas Rad 2 for sale on the Facebook Marketplace in Germany. That seems to be one of the ways to get your hands on the TRX 1991 Transmission case. I did it once and sold it on with the current Bandit Transmission installed, so I could keep that case. I would have to ask a friend who works at a US base here in Germany, if they would help with shipping.

Here's the LINK.

To me the Rad 2 is worth the sacrifice, since the SRT / LST / Hawk 2 (?) are the nicer vehicles anyway.

Unfortunately I recently missed a beater off ebay to do the same. I do not really need one though.

The gearbox/ motor plates are fairly rare and somewhat difficult to find. I may know where there's white cases but someone said they warp if you try to dye them.

Shocks came in the post today, I should have this going by Christmas :D

All built and installed, much better than the plastic shocks! This is a pretty well equipped truck....

Now I just need to paint the body, my least favourite part. Hopefully it turns out as nice as my race truck.

It drives !! :D :D

I replaced one of the motor wires as I wasn't happy with it, it was just a little on the tight side for my liking. The Hobbywing V3.1 ESC is still a fantastic ESC and adds to the quality of the build. I also forgot just how good the Futaba S9451 servo is.

It's soooo smooth, and with a boosted 8.0T...... It's gonna ba fun....

I finally had time to paint the body. I have been putting it off time and time again as I couldn't find the motivation to paint it.

I found I made some window mask templates last time which greatly reduced the time spent masking.

Nearly done, I couldn't be bothered masking the roll bar inside so I cheated and painted it on the outside, it's fairly protected from scratches so it will be fine.

Body pretty much done, at least this time I didn't accidentally paint blue over red

All stickered up and turned out pretty good overall, it looks exactly like my other one

It's a pretty good deepfake as it's not a real SRT  looks good with the cut up gearbox and the Sonic
