Losi JRX POS...build???: Quite possibly the worst drivable JRX you've ever seen.

Post by RogueIV »

Born from misfit parts from ebay part car buys and Held together with hopes, prayers, copious amounts of CA glue and improper fasteners. Behold, the JRX POS:

90% of parts on this car should have been tossed in the trashcan years ago, but here it is, existing, for some reason. Bent screws, bent shock tower, bent control arms. All the screws in the bulkhead are stripped, hence the glue. 4-40 screw in the nose likely to help with keeping the bulkhead on. Why is there a random aluminum bracket on the right side? who knows, but the screws don't want to budge so it stays and gets the Rx strapped to it.

Some of the only redeemable parts, RPM rear truck arms, and they are only on it because I needed the thrashed rear arms as spares for my actual JRX Pro SE. The hubs are twisted too, not sure how that even happens.

The Diff is Indifferent, it's actually melted together. The motor plate is from my childhood where I decided to paint it. As you can see that held up well

Wheels and tires just random take offs from other projects that looked usable. Track width is pretty close to regulation with the lower offset XX-4 rears and the RPM truck arms, might need to use that tactic later on a better car. The sliders are cut down LX-T units. They work, but look like the rest of the car...horrible.

One of the worst chassis plates I've ever gotten. It has a Red Dog decal on it which I can only assume is a portrait of the dog that mauled this chassis.

No wing, I refuse to waste my NIP wing tubes on this disaster on wheels. Body is another ebay parts bin special. So exotic! it's actually served as a practice, test body for a few of my cars while their bodies were getting paint.

Top view of the chassis. It's painted with some crappy uneven black paint and half of it is covered with fuzzy velcro and some weird felt stuff. this chassis did have some weird aluminum structure bolted to it when i got it but I pulled that all off. My guess is it was an oval car at some point or someone got bored in shop class. Servo ever so slightly tilted, just to trigger one's OCD.

The electronics are decent at least, I mean it has to be able to run at least. Trinity 19t spec motor, Tekin 411-G2 I pulled off my shelf. Less decent is the beat up HPI stock servo from whatever, and a Blue MX SR3100 Rx that will surely not die like the 2 others did over the past couple of months.

Somehow these AE bottom load shocks don't leak despite looking like they been left outside for a portion of their life.

Running video will likely come on Sunday.

I tried to get video. But apparently the car is so ugly that the video never recorded. Either way I drove it on an 1/8 scale track for a bit and predictably stuffed it on a jump, breaking one civil war era rod end and cracked the bulkhead. Honestly I'm surprised it cracked rather an falling off. We will re build her, we have the technology, but we will not make her better.

Also these arms are so warped it looks comical.

It's getting worse, somehow.

"fixed" the bulkhead buy using a Factory Works bulkhead brace (Gasp! does this count as an upgrade?) and using way too much glue in the cracks. who knows how long that will hold but we're using poor kid tactics with this car.

I found a motor that looked more neglected to fit with the car's crappy theme, a Trinty Monster stock with a rusty can, it seems to run pretty strong though.

I didn't want to put my NIP wing tubes on this car so I sought out alternative methods. It holds better than expected. Doubt the zip ties would survive a crash but hey we're going the half-assed approach here.

Tossed some street tires on the rear. HPI Super Radials on RPM 3 spokes that I think I had on my LXT ages ago. Don't really have dirt at my house and I want to test this pile in my driveway.

The body had a convenient hole big enough for a 1/4-20 screw, so I dropped an old generic action cam on it for some on car video.

Stay tuned for hopefully some actual video of the the heap working. (even if it's just briefly.)

Well I got video this time and it ran....for a bit.

https://youtu.be/ToBx4LTRu4k
The diff seems to have unwelded itself in the process. I might put a slightly better diff in it just so it can run or pin and glue this one together. Either way this car is pretty silly, the tires did not hook up at all, maybe I should have sauced them
Also this driveway is far too narrow and there's far too much crap all over. I'm sure they'll be more dumb antics with this car down the road.

Doing everything on this the wrong way. But somehow having it work is definitely a different take on what I usually do.

Sad thing is I'd bet there'd be some fool out there that'd try to sell something in this condition like it was made of gold and I say this because most of this car's parts came from the same lot of basically garbage I got suckered into buying. The lot wasn't too expensive but man was it full of a lot of crap I wish I didn't have to pay to ship. Might as well have fun with it!
