I thought the same! I don't have a Clod, just an old Redcat Scout. I couldn't resist running over the piles of snow and ice we still have here. One battery was enough for me as the temp is in single digits.Frankentruck wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 9:56 am All this snow looks like it's begging for a Clod to go romping through it!![]()

Re: Picture of the day. (Taken by you)
We have perfect Clod "snow" here at the moment. We got about 17 inches total. It has been above freezing only a couple of times in the past 2 weeks, so the snow melts a little in the sun then freezes harder than ever. It is hard enough to support the weight but still crunchy enough for the tire treads to dig into it. My crawler was making tracks only about 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep.Halgar wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 11:43 amAs fun as that sounds, clods don't work in snow more than an inch or two deep, they're too heavy and simply sink into unpacked powder. At least, that is what mine did back in the day. Still had a fun day, though, just had to either pack stuff down a bit or play where it wasn't so deep.Frankentruck wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 9:56 am All this snow looks like it's begging for a Clod to go romping through it!![]()

Re: Picture of the day. (Taken by you)
I received the Fast Traxx pickup for Christmas one year but can't recall driving it in the snow but imagine I would have due to the time of year. I even have a picture of it under the tree.
What I distinctly remember though is getting a Nikko Land Shark for another Christmas, and driving that in the snow which it did pretty well. Christmas day I took it in the street, and was driving it through the slush and snow when a passing car ran it over! The snow banks on either side were too tall so I had nowhere to go. I pulled over as far as I could but it didn't matter. Especially when the car seemed to aim for it!
Unbelievably it was unscathed somehow.
My friend had one as well that he used to throw out of his second story bedroom window into the driveway to drive around. Needless to say they were really tough.

I've got a couple of 1/16 RC tanks , took one out in the snow once , snow iced up in the tracks almost straight away , no fun at all
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.

The Kyosho Blizzard DX was a blast ito operate n the snow, as was the later nitro variant. For the Nitro, I would keep spray bottle of de-icer handy, as the snow would melt near the heat of the engine and ice the drive chains. The muffled sound of the double exhaust and the plume of smoke were also fund to watch over the snow drifts. As a bonus, when you throttled up to a certain level, it would get "on plane" like a boat as it skimmed the surface.

That's understandable, slow and too many moving parts to clog up, unlike the unit named above that is basically a speed demon with two sprockets and a track, little to nothing for snow to build up on. And by "speed demon" I'm saying it's got enough speed to fling the snow clear instead of building up, not that it's some lightning quick thing.

Re: Picture of the day. (Taken by you)
I've heard northern IL snow is far better specifically for tracked r/c than UK snow. It's a scientifically proven fact via tiktok. Sledding on the other hand is a different story. I've never been able to replicate Clark Griswold's run in Christmas Vacation, even using every available lube on the shelf.
But now I want a Turbo Fast Traxx just to see how well it actually was in the snow. They were quite flippin' fast for an 8 year old.

No hate here. I think it actually looks really nice, but for that price range and personal preference, I'd rather put the dough to a CT5-V blackwing or a C8 Z06.

Re: Picture of the day. (Taken by you)
I took this pic yesterday while trying to get back in the habit of getting my steps in during the day. This would be from the south side of Potterfield Bridge looking north across the James River to what would be considered the western portion of downtown Richmond, Va. The bridge itself is kinda cool because it is an early variable volume dam, that had a railway on top of it, and now has a walking bridge on top of the railroad. But what caught my attention / memory, and the reason I took this pic was the two sister buildings shown in the middle. Those are two "James Center" buildings and were under construction in the early 1980s. Just beyond the elevated train section in this pic, are what used to be (and kinda still exist) portions of canals used to move passengers and freight along Richmond. The more passenger part went from left to center, and pretty much ended in the ballpark of where those buildings stand. There was a larger portion of the canal that continued to the right, but it catered to larger freight vessels. So, where those buildings stand was a "turning basin," i.e., an area off to the side of the canal for boats to turn around and head back west (to the left). Well, as time went by and the canals weren't used, that turning basin got filled in while the canals were left to be for the most part. History kinda forgot this. Then, in about 1983, they started digging down to create the parking levels for these buildings, and they ran across a couple of sunken, well preserved, canal boats in the mud. Then, a couple more. When all was said and done, they discovered ~63 canal boat hulls. I do believe that everything that was salvageable was recovered.
I remember my dad taking the whole family down to the site, and us awing through the chain link fence, looking at 100+ year old boats resting in the mud. My dad was always great that way; not super serious into the history stuff, but going out of his way to make sure to teach it and show it whenever he could.

I build RCs like people would have done back in the '90s ..................................... if they had 3D printers.
