Kyosho Outlaw Raider

Post by Dangeruss »

In 1991 Kyosho released the Outlaw Raider as their newest entry level model in the hugely popular 1/10 2wd Stadium Truck class. While the model was new, the chassis was not. It bore more than just a passing resemblance to the Raider 2wd buggy as only a small handful of parts were changed in the buggy-to-truck transformation. The shallow ABS plastic tub with integrated front kickup was retained, as was the glass filled molded nylon construction for the remainder of the components. Up front a taller shock tower sat between hinge screw equipped lower a-arms and fixed camber links. Inline front hubs and knuckles connected to long adjustable tie rods that led to a Kimbrough style servo saver. The battery mounted transversely to the chassis under a triangulated brace that tied the gearbox cover to the tub walls, sandwiching the gearbox between the top cover and the tail of the chassis plate. Mounts for the lower hinge screws were molded into the gearbox from which lower a-arms would hold the rear hubs with the help of fixed camber links pivoting from a bolt-on shock tower. Aluminum capped, oil filled, plastic bodied coilover shocks with clip-in spring spacers would serve dampening duty, the front shocks as long as the rear and fastened to the a-arms. A mid-mounted motor provided thrust to the bevel diff equipped transmission with metal dog bones and axles leading to new one-piece, high offset, dish style Stadium Truck wheels holding 505/55/22 Bridgestone Mini Spike tires. A clear lexan Dodge Ram body, large plastic front bumper/body mount, rotary mechanical speed controller, Mabuchi RS540 motor and bronze bushings were included with the unassembled kit, which was sold less radio. An ARR version of the Outlaw Raider was also available.

Also pictured were the Outlaw Ultima and Outlaw Rampage:

Outlaw Ultima: 1/10 2wd electric truck released in 1990. Based on the Ultima II and its Kelron chassis/lower a-arm adjustable camber link suspension, servo saver equipped twin bellcrank steering, turnbuckle tie rods and adjustable front hubs and knuckles. Aluminum shock towers held long aluminum capped, plastic bodied, oil-filled coilover shocks while a 48-pitch transmission was fit with a bevel gear differential and steel dogbones. 505/55/22 Bridgestone Sand Super pin style tires were wrapped around deeply offset single piece nylon wheels which spun on plastic bushings. A clear lexan Ford Ranger body topped the unassembled kit off which included a mechanical speed controller and LeMans Super Stock 34 Motor but sold less radio.

Outlaw Rampage: 1/10 gas powered 2wd stadium truck released in 1991. Based on the 1/10 2wd Ultima Outlaw stadium truck, aluminum pan style chassis and nylon components, Lower a-arm/adjustable camber link suspension; aluminum capped, oil-filled, coilover shocks, aluminum towers, twin bellcrank steering system, built-in servo saver and adjustable tie rods. Powered by an O.S. CZ-R(K) .12 motor, pinion and spur primary drive, prop shaft with slipper mounted belt final drive, bevel gear differential equipped transmission and steel dogbones. 505/55/22 Bridgestone Sand Super pin style tires, deeply offset single piece nylon wheels and metal bushings. Clear lexan Ford Ranger body topped the unassembled kit off which was sold less radio.
