RC18R fans?

Post by treystoys »

Anybody have any fond memories of these guys!? I’m guessing these have to be nearing the 20 year mark or so? I remember buying these with a couple friends way back just as bashers really. We were off work one odd day with nothing to do, my buddies wife was not home, all our kids were at school. So we pushed the furniture up against the walls in his living room and kitchen and made a track in his house!! Fun times! We had a blast until we lost time and she walked into a heated race

My kids and I have 1/14 kits, a mix of Losi and LC Racing. Little Trey has an LC truggy, which is really quick, like right over 40 on a 2s battery. That’s quick to me at least for fun running around the house 😊 Anyway, I really hadn’t touched the rc18 in a while, I think I let him run it in the garage when he was 5 or 6 (thing is like a tank with the body on lol) Anyway, last year or so I guess, he tells me he wants to race his truggy against the little blue car. I’m like dude it’s no contest, your truck is way faster. Mainly I was worried it was gonna break at speed and I didn’t even know if I could get parts for it if it did. But Trey is persistent as hell 😜 and finally I’m like why not. So this thing has cf chassis parts and some better tie rods, but factory rtr electronics, AM radio and all, and a Losi 370 brushed motor oh and original tires. So I’m sorting through my old micro nicad and nihm packs just to find one that might take a charge, then I dig in the lipo bag and find a smaller 2000mah 2s pack and it fits perfectly. Charge the batteries up, throw some AAs in the transmitter and to my surprise after the 18 gained traction I’d walk past him right around 100ft or so lol. We probably lined up 15 times with the same result! The fact that it stays atraight under power is awesome, brushed backed with lipo power lol.

I also remember years ago, running it on an indoor track that a local guy opened just for small scale and just thinking these were really well sorted, kinda charge it and go, and go fast and turn! For what started out as an RTR car with a chassis kit, it was quite the bang for buck at the time!

Oh well, just reminiscing I guess! I had to get a box off the shelf earlier and this was on top, just thought I’d share. Any cool associated rc18 builds or stories you guys have? Post up or reply!
