Re: YS Engine Head
How long since that thing had been run? To me, that looks like loose head bolts + water ingression = rusty bolts and "staining" of the aluminum. The portions that are not stained were where the bolts were tight and the sealing was good. So, by that thinking, the gasket could have been "good" but the head bolts were loose long enough for the rusting and staining to occur. That's just a theory.Falsepleasure wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 3:23 pm Anyone ever seen this before? Is this caused by a bad head gasket?
Or if the gasket failed somehow or deteriorated enough to allow the water to get between the head and the cylinder wick up into the bolt holes, that would happen also. Definitely not an expert with those tiny engines, so don't know if those heads can warp or not. I guess any metal can warp though under the right (wrong?) conditions.
So, to sum up my ramblings, looks like rust staining around the base of the head, which would indicate a poor seal, how that seal became poor is the "mystery". But loose bolts, warping?, or a bad gasket could cause that.
Hope you're doin' something fun.

Re: YS Engine Head
I have no idea when it was ran last or how it was stored or where. A friend purchased a old Xcell heli with that YS motor from somebody he knew. Ive been messing with it for several months now just trying to see if the old YS will come back to life. Im about done with it tho. Just got a new head and gasket in the mail today from YS in Japan. About to install it and see what happens.TRX-1-3 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 7:27 pmHow long since that thing had been run?
