Kyosho Slingshot

Post by Dangeruss »

In 1989 Kyosho introduced their new Slingshot 1/10 4wd oval track racer to the fast-growing dirt track racing market. Based around a double deck fiberglass plate chassis with cutouts for either stick or saddle mounted batteries, the remainder of the Slingshot would be constructed of injection molded nylon. Sealed front and rear gearcases doubled as bulkhead mounts for the four-wheel independent lower a-arm and adjustable camber link suspension system dampened by a set of Kyosho Gold, oil-filled, gold anodized aluminum coilover shocks with adjustable collars angled steeply towards a pair of plate aluminum shock towers. A bellcrank steering system with built-in servo saver led to adjustable tie rods up front while the transversely orientated motor attached to an aluminum mount midship on the driver's side of the chassis and spun its pinion against a counter gear holding the twin belts of the Slingshot's four wheel drive system. A tensioner mounted to the top deck kept play to a minimum while the final drive pulleys with a one-way bearing up front and non-diff rear connected to universal axles and dogbones, respectively. The universal axles passed through metal front knuckles while the dogbone axles were held in place by plastic rear carriers, all capped off by a set of chrome finished "phone dial" style 3-piece nylon wheels shod in 265/65/20 H and 340/30/20 H Bridgestone Block tires. The unassembled kit included a full set of bearings but was sold less motor, speed controller, radio and body:
