Kyosho Racing Montero

Post by Dangeruss »

In 1987 Kyosho introduced a new model to their lineup, a 1/12 2wd gas powered truck they called the Racing Montero. Designed to replicate the full-size trucks competing in the Dakar rally Kyosho's Montero came with a highly detailed body covering its plastic tub chassis. Independent aluminum trailing arms front and rear were supported by gold anodized, aluminum bodied, coilover shocks with adjustable collars at each corner, the shocks themselves held to the tub with individual aluminum brackets. A simple center mounted bellcrank with adjustable tie rods completed the steering system up front while a sealed gearcase bolted to the back of the Montero's tub with a flat plate joining the bottoms of the tub and transmission together. Positioned at the rear of the truck was the gas motor which used a chain drive to transfer power to the transmission and out to a pair of steel dogbone axles before finally giving the nylon "phone dial" style wheels with block tread style tires a chance to provide the necessary off-road traction. A motor was not included but Kyosho provided mounting hardware, a muffler, air cleaner, fuel tank and clutch to fit several models. Also included was a lid to seal the top of the chassis from debris, a roll bar with lights for the clear lexan body, a small metal front bumper to protect the chassis and full bushings. While the transmission was prebuilt the otherwise unassembled kit sold less radio. Also available with a clear lexan Pajero body:
