Kyosho advertising its lineup of Optima based four-wheel drive off-road racing buggies in 1986:
Optima: 1/10 4wd electric off-road buggy unveiled in 1985. Square tube aluminum twin spar frame with four end plates attached to nylon bulkheads bookended by an under guard up front and motor guard in the rear. 4-wheel independent lower a-arm and adjustable upper camber link suspension, red anodized, oil-filled, adjustable collar, aluminum coilover shocks, short alloy towers front and rear doubled as upper camber link mounts. Twin bellcrank steering system with threaded tie rods and built-in servo saver, fiberglass radio plate provided lateral support and held the transverse mounted battery and necessary electronics. The 4-wheel drive system consisted of a rear mounted motor, adjustable slipper clutch, pinion and counter gear primary drive and bevel gear rear differential with a chain from the rear diff running forward to the front bevel gear diff. Steel dog bones, bushing, aluminum knuckles up front, and plastic hub carriers in the rear lead to three piece directional spoke nylon wheels and spiked Sand Super tires. A Mabuchi RS 540 motor, mechanical resistor speed controller, clear lexan body, driver to cover the electronics, and a large plastic front bumper were included in the unassembled kit, less radio
Turbo Optima: 1/10 4wd electric off-road buggy introduced in 1986. Featured the same aluminum square tube frame with fiberglass upper deck and nylon constructed 4-wheel lower a-arm/adjustable camber link suspension with aluminum shock towers, twin bellcrank steering with built-in servo saver and adjustable tie rods, chain driven, sealed bulkhead, bevel gear differentials with dogbones and a slipper clutch driven pinion and counter gear primary drive as the original Optima. On to that platform the Turbo Optima offered new lower a-arms, front and rear sway bars, metal geared differentials, a heavier duty chain, Kyosho Option House Gold anodized aluminum coilover shocks with adjustable collars, full bearings, and a Lemans 240S motor mated to an 8.4V mechanical speed controller with reverse. A new clear lexan body, driver, and wing, large plastic front bumper as well as larger "Phone Dial" nylon wheels with lower profile pin style tires were included in the unassembled kit sold less radio.
Javelin: An open bodied counterpart to the Optima 1/10 4wd off-road buggy debuted in 1986. The Aluminum twin spar frame and fiber reinforced molded nylon suspension as the Optima was unchanged and used the same square tube aluminum spar and end plates attached to nylon bulkheads with an under guard up front and motor guard in the rear as well as the 4-wheel independent lower a-arm/camber link suspension with red anodized, oil-filled, adjustable collar, aluminum coilover shocks supported by short alloy towers front and rear that doubled as upper camber link mounts. The twin bellcrank steering system with threaded tie rods and built-in servo saver, fiberglass radio plate that held the transverse mounted battery and electronics was the same as well as the 4-wheel drive system with rear mounted motor, adjustable slipper clutch equipped pinion and counter gear primary drive, bevel gear front and rear differentials, sealed chain drive, and steel dog bones that lead to bushing equipped aluminum knuckles and plastic hub carriers in the rear. Changes were exclusive to the exterior of the vehicle with chromed three piece spoked nylon wheels, spiked Sand Super tires and a molded plastic roll cage. A large plastic front bumper, Mabuchi RS 540 motor, mechanical resistor speed controller were included in the unassembled kit that was sold less radio.
Salute: A lower cost version of the 1/10 4wd off-road Turbo Optima released in 1986. Featured the same aluminum square tube frame with fiberglass upper deck and nylon constructed heavy duty 4-wheel lower a-arm/adjustable camber link suspension with aluminum shock towers and Option House Gold anodized, oil-filled, aluminum coilover shocks with adjustable collars, front and rear sway bars, twin bellcrank steering with built-in servo saver and adjustable tie rods, as well as a hardened chain driven, sealed bulkhead, bevel gear differentials with dogbones and a new torque limiting clutch driven pinion and counter gear primary drive. full bearings, an 8.4V mechanical speed controller with reverse, large plastic front bumper and large "Phone Dial" nylon wheels with lower profile pin style tires remained though a new aerodynamic clear lexan body, driver, and wing differentiated the Salute which was sold less motor and radio.
