I always try to start a few hot pepper plants a month before May long Weekend here in Calgary.

Growing season is short but I got quite a few 4 inch jalapenos last year.
I grow jalapenos and habaneros here in Leduc, AB. too. It seems the jalapenos are far more productive. The habaneros just start to hit their stride during the last days in autumn, we bring the plants inside for a few weeks and they end up producing a bunch of little, super-hot peppers, but everything we bring inside ends up getting infested with aphids and everything dies within a month or two.

I came up with a really good hot sauce recipe that combines jalapenos and habaneros with some store-bought red bell peppers for a touch of sweetness and it's really tasty, and very spicy. It's great in soups or on a barbecued cheeseburger. 8)

Just out of curiosity, what is the outdoor growing season there? I would imagine pretty short that far north. The first garden I ever attempted, I planted several Jalapeno and Habanero plants. I didn't care for it properly and the weeds grew taller than my pepper plants. It was all fenced in so I just left it alone until fall clean-up and when I went to cut it all down I realized I had dozens of Habanero peppers on the plants covered in tall weeds. The Jalapenos didn't do well at all.

Local sauce my cousins picked up. Really good. Especially paired with a brat, horseradish mustard and jalapeño kraut.

That looks delicious! Dang!

This is my daily use hot sauce. For the last couple of years I was ordering it 12 bottles at a time (cheaper at webstaurantstore.com) but my local Kroger just started carrying it. It doesn't taste like you would expect a Tabasco sauce to taste.

My grocery store stopped carrying these in full sized bags but Walgreens has the individual size bags. They taste sort of like Taco Doritos but with some oomph. Do not purposesly inhale the scent in an open bag of chips. You don't need that fire in your lungs.

Bought this from some fundraiser situation. Pretty good. Not crazy hot by any means, but very tasty.

My neighbor gave me homegrown tomatoes and hot peppers. I used two huge tomatoes and 3 different kinds of hot peppers. Blended them up with some garlic and a pinch of salt. Added white vinegar and cooked it down for about 4 hours until all the liquid was gone. Ended up with 4 tiny cups. Really good flavor. Sweet and hot.

This hasn't been bumped in a while and I'm in a postin' mood, so why not. I'll keep it simple with one post but these are 3 interesting sauces I've tried this year. None of them set you on fire but they're at least spicy and very interesting. I'd buy each again. The Louisiana Bourbon sauce exactly pictured here seems a bit elusive though. All worth a try if you need a little heat in your life.

I'll take flavor over heat just to be hot any day of the weak.

Two Christmases ago I was gifted a sampler set of hot sauces from all around the world. My favorite ended up being the Louisiana bourbon one. :)

Every summer I try growing a different hot pepper plant, and then dehydrate them into flake form. This year was Thai Dragon. I haven't really tried it enough yet to form a solid opinion, but so far so good.

Probably going to be a good amount of heat in the dried peppers.

I have multiple bottles of the Tabasco brand sauce. The original and the sriracha are great,

Good choices Ken.

Waaaay off topic, but I can't read a @Diamond Dave post without thinking of David Lee Roth. Not sure why.
Hope you're doin' something fun.

Hey, just saw this Ken.

I start all my plants indoors in Jan/Feb. Growing season is usually the last week of May til mid Oct. Being Oct 16th today, I just took the last few pepper plants that are still producing and they will overwinter inside. It snowed like crazy Oct 1st 2023.

Peppers are perennial , they will grow again next spring if you trim them properly and keep them lightly fed. I start new plants every year as well. Had to get it done today as I am off for two weeks to Mexico!!!

This time frame ranges widely, north of me is shorter due to colder weather and earlier frost. I know a guy in Winnipeg that has fantastic results, he is further south than I am. The far southwest interior of BC has a growing season 10 months a year.
