Toys in the Attic

Post by GreenBar0n »

Hi all. Glad to have found this site, I have a few vintage RC's that I dug out recently, and I need 30 meaningful posts in order to request an extremely hard to find part, or to get in to the B/S/T.

Theme music for this post:

Help me RC10Talk, you're my only hope:

I built a Tamiya Frog in '83 at 11 years old, and traded it away years later.

In '93 or so I bought an RC10, turns out it was one of the last gold pan kits made. The day I bought that RC10 kit, I also bought the Parma '32 Ford ZZ-Top style body, and never even mounted, or painted the RC10 body and driver.

I have a '66 Blue and White 21 Window VW Bus, that a friend painted this RC shell to match for me, in the late 90's:

That's why I have the aluminum body mounts:

But sometimes, only nitro will do.

Bought this RC10GT with MIP upgrades, and same thing with aftermarket bodies, never mounted or painted stock body:

Need an MIP Shiny CVD bone for this, been without a wheel for decades now:

I shelved the RC10 and RC10gt and took it further in '98 or so with the Kyosho USA-1 Nitro Crusher's and the Unistart 2000:

I bought the necessary parts to turn one of those in to an Inferno MP5 with the steel gears, never got around to it.

That green truck is sweet.
I like that rc10gt I feel like they don’t get enough love. Are you ever going to paint the bodies on your rc10gt or the last gold pan?
I bought a blue pan rc10gt a month ago or so. I’m trying to fix it and get it going. It doesn’t need much to be a runner. Still searching for wheels and tires. It’ll be my first nitro.

Congrats on your Blue GT! Nitro is a lot of fun. Not having to worry about charging and maintaining batteries, was unreal when these came out.
Are you looking for the stock GT wheels and tires?

My RC10 GT's are really close to being done, I have just a few details left to finish on those, like the reverse/brake setup for #1, and #2 just needs the servo cables and battery pack wires shortened. I was thinking I would paint the stock GT body at some point.

The RC10 C stamp will be getting the Team Car paint job, on the Viper body the C-stamp came with. I recently got an airbrush and am currently working my way up to attempting the Team Car paint scheme.

The Kyosho USA-1 Nitro Crusher's, got new tuned pipes a couple of months ago, have yet to put them on still.

Would appreciate seeing your nitro build in the RC10T forum!

Thanks for the encouragement with the rc10gt I’ll post something in the rc10t forum shortly.
Right now I’m just trying to figure out what wheels fit. The battery in my digital caliper is dead so I’m unable to measure the axle. I’m unsure if it’s 3/16 or 1/4. My guess is 3/16.
The motor in the gt is not original it’s a Cen NX.15. What’s your advice on that motor? Would it be easier to trash it and pick up something new?
Your builds are awesome good luck with the air brush!

Thanks! And, looking forward to seeing your restoration!

On page 11 of the GT RTR manual, it says the rear axle stub is part#: ASC7380, which is a 3/16" stub.

I've heard the Jconcepts are good wheels for the GT, which fit the 3/16" stubs: https://blog.jconcepts.net/2021/12/jconcepts-new-release-mono-rc10t-t2-t3-gt-wheels/

I had not heard of a CEN NX 15 motor, found one on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/315234476180

Looks like an OS motor to me. If it still has good compression, and the sleeve, piston, and connecting rod look good still (sleeve not popping out too easily), might as well run that one until it won't.

Thanks! I’m looking up wheels now.

The motor seems fine. I’ll try to fire it up and run it for a bit.
