Toy grade 27Mhz am and Hobby Grade 27 Mhz am

I've seen some topics around this but non exactly on.

Can a hobby grade transmitter at 27mhz work with toy grade cars? What about toy grade transmitters with properly chipped transmitters?

The 27 MHz band is legal in most, if not all, countries for use with all types of RCs. Subject to interference from adjacent CB Operation. Note:cheap toys seem to usually use Channel 4 if there is no channel stated.

    26.995 MHz -- Channel 1 -- Brown
    27.045 MHz -- Channel 2 -- Red
    27.095 MHz -- Channel 3 -- Orange
    27.145 MHz -- Channel 4 -- Yellow
    27.195 MHz -- Channel 5 -- Green
    27.255 MHz -- Channel 6 -- Blue - Shared with CB Radio Service, never an "exclusive" channel

I'm mostly curious about the Radio Shack/Tyco Cars, but I have 2 associated 27MHZ RTRs as well.

Many times, toy grade transmitters and receivers are programed different.

For instance, X-Mods. The crystals work with all 27mhz AM radios, but the transmitters aren't compatible with hobby grade receivers.

I've once driven a proportional Nikko (1:14 evolution series) with a hobby transmitter, and that went well. The other way around worked too.

Another try with a non proportional Nikko buggy and a hobby transmitter gave me OK throttle, but steering trim was waaaay out of range of the trim switches on the transmitter.
