Only one way to do that paint job justice and that’s an airbrush.
Who do you race for ?
Me……. I race for me.
That’s impossible, I was told you need a sponsor to race.

The blue over the black does look like it would require an airbrush. If there was some way to adjust the tip on the Tamiya black spray, to get it to focus better in a tighter line, might be able to get away with cans.

Have checked out the air brushes, it's a serious commitment, but is the way to go.

Can be done with spray paint. Practice on some scrap first, obviously, but... you can either roll masking tape back onto itself or use a round foam seal, set it back from the edge of the "yellow" mask line, and spray the black rattle can in light coats from slightly behind the tape/foam and it'll produce a fade based on whatever diameter/distance you choose. Won't be as well atomized as an airbrush but it gets the job done.

Thanks! I would want it to look exactly like the picture does though, no reason to rush it, or do it any other way, in my mind. It may be a while before this one gets done correctly.

"... it's a serious commitment..." Nah, not really. Like a good set of hex drivers, an air brush is just another tool in your arsenal (sorry for the mixed metaphors  ).
And, you don't need to spend 300 bucks to get good results.
Go for it, man! :D

Be sure to report back IF you ever see or receive a Team Car painted body from Andy.

:D I would really like a pro air brush setup, coupled with the Barbatos Rex approved spray booth.

Mixing custom colors, and being able to paint indoors at any hour, and in the most ideal conditions, would be about as good as I can imagine.

Your mind is a steel trap, sir! :D

I have still been operating under that wishful-thinking premise, the quote you have above has kept me clicking this link since last Christmas:
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?item=204578272948&rt=nc&_trksid=p4429486.m3561.l170197&_ssn=andysrcpaintusa

I sent the AndysRCPaintUSA account a PM on ebay, and he told me back then, that he was waiting on Viper bodies. I've not seen a single Viper body since last Christmas .

I did finally see two Andy's painted Team Car bodies, within the last two months. Couldn't believe it. I almost bid on them, but the ones in the auction didn't have the black shading over the blue, really want it to look exactly like this:

Getting ready to try it.
Image

No windows masks included with the NOS Viper body.

Will begin looking for the correct paint and colors.

Found the correct scale decals, in order to draw the lines where they need to be for the hood.
Image

I believe the original used 3mm Tamiya curved tape for the lines on the hood and sides. Going to use Faskolor paints for this, I think that's what the original used.

The Jammin Jay decal sheet has a lot of the best decals needed for the Team Car, including the large wing decal.

Ordered Faskolor opaque white, black, orange, blue and had to go with Proline flourescent pink. Used my Amain $10 off. All the paint will be here by next Wednesday.

Going to tape these decals on the outside and draw the lines, and then use the 3mm tape on the inside.

Went through my decals and found almost every one needed.

But I don't have this Dynamics decal:
Image

Apparently the MCIracing sheet is missing that one too.
Image

Does anyone know what that Dynamics decal was, or where it came from?

The hardest thing about doing this paint scheme, is keeping the stripes parallel/symmetrical and the right distance apart.
Image

This NOS Viper body has no mounting hole's, and no reference marks either, so finding the center is difficult.
Image

Have a laser level that will be here tomorrow, going to use this to make the tape lines.
Image

All of the paint except blue will be here today, blue is coming from North Carolina, should be here in the middle of next week.

Got the laser level, been wanting one of these for a while now.
Image

No more guessing where center is, or if things are aligned.
Image

The top tape lines are the hardest to get correct, they emerge from the '4' and need to be the same arc and symmetry on both sides. It's this little detail, when I look at an example of this paint scheme, that stands out the most to me. And I still don't have it correct.

Maybe another hour of tape lines left to go.

Will see how these lines look tomorrow, and probably move them again a few times.
