Battery question for the RaeRe RC10 40th and DS
I’m looking for battery suggestions for my gold pan and my DS. I was thinking about putting a 2S Shorty battery with 5 mm bullets in the DS and RC 10 Buggy but I’m not sure If the brushed 1060 speed control can handle a 130 C battery. Is the discharge rate that important to take into consideration for the 1060 speed control? Is there any kind of thread or file with battery explanations with C ratings, Cell count, etc.?

2s is your voltage basically, a 2s is 7.4v (rated, 8.4 or so fully charged). The C rating is how fast it can discharge. Not really a consideration for the speed control. It's a consideration for the motor choice. Think of it as larger fuel line- if you are running an engine that doesn't need all that fuel it's not a limiting factor. The mah rating is going to be your run time, the bigger the number the more runtime you get. Think of that like a bigger fuel tank. The motor effects that of course but in general a 5000 will have considerably more run time than a 3000. I will say a brushed motor doesn't necessarily like running for 15 minutes at a time, so a lower mah battery would probably be my pick. If you were running brushless then it's a different story.

The battery doesn't force power through the esc, the esc regulates the power. The motor and esc will take what they want.
A battery CAPABLE of discharging faster than the power requirement shouldn't cause any issue. To a certain point, the esc might function better. 1060's are known for going into limp mode with some batteries, with capacitors on the battery side being the solution.

Do you have examples of the capacitors?juicedcoupe wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 4:22 pm The battery doesn't force power through the esc, the esc regulates the power. The motor and esc will take what they want.

I think the 1060 esc can handle down to a 12 or 13 turn brushed motor with a 2s lipo. I would be more concerned with burning up a brushed motor while having the extra run time a good lipo provides unless you have good self control and limit your run time. If you want to enjoy a long run time with a brushed motor, i recommend undergearing it so it wont get sooo hot.

I have a 17 turn motor on my 40th. Stock spur and I am not sure on the pinion.carloco8 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2024 10:44 pm I think the 1060 esc can handle down to a 12 or 13 turn brushed motor with a 2s lipo. Yes.
I have never personally had a 1060 go into limp mode but it appears to be common enough.
I don't know the specific situations that caused it either. It could be people paring up the wrong motor for their combination or simply being over geared.

For your Goldpan and DS, I'd recommend sticking with a lower discharge rate battery, around 40-50C. This will be gentler on the older electronics and provide ample power for both vehicles. A 2S LiPo battery with 5mm bullets is a good choice.

I think I will just go with this one. 2s lipo shorty with a t plug.
