With those gold DS stock wheels, I ordered an HPI Trans Am Bandit body, the wheelbase should be about right.

Ooh, great choice!! I've been looking at that TA body myself. It looks a little wide but otherwise, it appears that HPI did a great job replicating the 1:1.
I wonder what wheels are used in the photo :?:

The original '78 Firebird snowflake wheels are hard to fake.

Not sure what wheels would be a better replica, or what the HPI photo used, but they are pretty close.

If the HPI body is a bit wide on the DS, that might give room for 12mm hex adapters, and the ability for more wheel choices. Looking forward to finding out.

I was thinking about painting the DS wheel inserts black, instead of gold, and then going with the '71 Firebird TA body; may buy another set of DS wheels if someone parts one, and do this body too, it's 260mm wb.

The VTA Camaro is pretty sweet too, those are HPI 12mm hex wheels.

What is all this crazy talk? No love for Tommy Kendall's Mustang?

I was actually surprised (then and now) that AE didn't do the Sting Ray body as a call back to the Dead Pool movie.

 Actually, I think TK's 'Stang looks great and AE's body looks very close to the real car.
I like all muscle cars - no matter who makes them. I drive an '09 GT https://photos.app.goo.gl/WwfuifJoByYSw5Lu6

When an RC manufacturer makes a body with features and proportions that closely match the full size car, it catches my eye and I want to add it to the collection.

A Dead Pool Vette commemorative release would be very cool. Maybe AE will offer something like that around the movie's anniversary some day.

Just hit the HPI website for some answers:
The wheels on the TA in the photo are discontinued but I'm sure Tamiya and others make a similar wheel.
The TA body is 200mm x 254mm wheelbase so it won't simply drop-on the DS without some work. Having integrated wheel flares might limit how the wheel arches could be trimmed to stretch the wb (as reported, the DS is 261mm). Not sure if the DS chassis tub or front plate can be modded to reduce wb but I think it's worth trying.

I'm hoping the stock DS wheels are close enough to the Bandit.

Here's an AE Hoonitruck, it has a wb of about 10.3" which is close to 261mm.

The HPI '67 Vette body on the 261mm wb. The front bumper is pushing the body forward, otherwise it would center. Hoping the Trans Am body is similar to the vette.
Image

This HPI Trans Am auction says the TA body is 257mm, or 10.12", which is not too far off from 10.28".

The HPI Mustang fastback is nice too, one in dark green would do it for my shelf.

Ignore the dust. Here is a pic of my DS with the HPI body on it. Mounting holes aren't aligned for this car. The width is ok, the wheelbase is a little short but I didn't cut it for this body. It just runs a bit on the front and back so you should be able to trim to fit.

Nicely done, thanks for the proof in the pics! The wheels work pretty well with the TA body too.

My DS shipped out of Hobby-Sports in Michigan today, via USPS, scheduled delivery is this Saturday the 10th.

Going to try for the box art on the stock body, I do really like it.

Anyone get their DS yet? Looking forward to seeing an unboxing and build.

After watching that video, I ordered the Fast Eddy bearing kit.

I looked at that catalog page again, and it caught my eye that AE referred to this body as a "stock car." In reality, the body is super widened with flat panels on the side and rear, exactly like a trans am car (why I bought it). The shape is really nothing like a stock car / Nascar of the time at all. Wonder why they didn't call it a trans am car? Not as popular with the American male as stock car racing?

Anywho, don't mean to continue to make this thread into a body thread. Although I think it makes sense. I think there are going to be a slew of DS builds soon, and many are going to want alternatives to the stock body.

Trans Am is a trademarked name. Touchy subject for Associated as of late.

I could not agree more.
Except for two '10T's, every vintage RC10 I own is a buggy and with the re-release of the DS and the fact that it isn't a limited edition, I'm hoping to expand the collection in new direction.
In addition to the boxart Mustang, I'd really like to include at least one NASCAR build -- probably an Earnhardt #3 Monte Carlo because that car is so iconic.

The spec's in that ebay post could be wrong. HPI links their bodies to their RS4 chassis that is 254mm wb. However, your '67 Vette body certainly appears to fit a 261mm just fine. Either way, it's not a huge difference so with careful trimming, you should be fine with the Trans Am body.
From Burniefloyd's photos, I think the DS wheels look great with his Trans Am body so I'd probably just go with them.

I looked at what chassis's the HPI TA body fits, definitely 254mm or 10" for a majority of them.
https://www.hpiracing.com/en/part/107201

It shows it fits the 255mm wb on the HPI Touring spec car:
https://www.hpiracing.com/en/kit/160334

255mm or 10.039", vs 261mm 10.28", is not a huge difference to try and make up between both wheels.@GoMachV had mentioned there were a couple of ways to possibly shorten the wheelbase a bit if necessary; I'll re-read that post again and look at the manual.

I want to use the stock body and a 260mm wb VW Dual Cab body, probably won't shorten the wb.
