Traxxas made their first foray into the world of monster trucks with the release of the Sledgehammer in 1989. Constructed primarily of injection molded white nylon the Sledgehammer derived a significant portion of its parts from the Traxxas Bullet. The tub chassis was unique to the Sledgehammer, as were the front and rear gold anodized aluminum chassis braces and double ABS, internally valved, plastic adjustable coilover shocks at all four corners. But the remainder of the four-wheel independent suspension with lower a-arms/adjustable upper camber links/turnbuckle equipped steering and planetary gear drivetrain would be shared with the Radicator buggy and Hawk race truck, save for the Sledgehammers ground clearance improving motor mount. Bushings, matte silver 2.2 monster truck wheels with decidedly Tamiya style spiked chevron tires, and an unpainted body with sprung body mounts completed the unassembled kit while the fully assembled kit came with an XL-1 reversing esc wearing oversized heat sinks, a steering servo, and pistol grip radio system, though the body would remain unpainted. In 1993 the truck would be updated with black ABS shocks and black anodized aluminum and by 1997 the Sledghammer's white plastic would be replaced by black plastic accented by blue anodized aluminum:

Re: Traxxas Sledgehammer
Great ad! Great truck!!

I build RCs like people would have done back in the '90s ..................................... if they had 3D printers.

Re: Traxxas Sledgehammer
Neat truck, super clean.
I spent a lot of time staring at the Sledgehammer ads, really wanted one but worried it'd just be a toy. Stadium trucks & buggies could be hopped up and raced but I never got that vibe from the 'Hammer.
Now with all the LMT's, SMT's and Clods they've started "Monster Cross" racing... which just looks like buckets of fun.
