OG Clodbuster
So i got this thing awhile back as part of a trade. Other than knowing what it is, I know little to nothing else about it.
So far I have put a modern hobbywing esc in it and 2 Reedy Radon 15T brushed motors, 2 new 25kg servos to make it 4 wheel steering and recently ordered 2 new upright aluminum mounts for the servos.
A friend of mine is trying to trade me out of it. He's offering his ready to run V2 infraction. I do like the larger RCs but I'm not sure if this would be a fair trade. I guess what I'm asking is, what is this thing worth? It runs fine, but like any older rc, it has a few insignificant things that could use some love and attention.
Any help/info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Re: OG Clodbuster
It depeds on what you like. Personality, I wouldn't trade.
That Clod is probably worth way more than the Infraction.

Re: OG Clodbuster
What you have there is a Clod Buster with a Clodzilla IV conversion. The wheels look like they have some age to them so they could be original Technacraft opposed to being reproductions. The tires are called 'V-Spike' and were sold by TMS and Duratrax. The shocks and body are more modern. We normally don't appraise R/C stuff as there's no price guide to go by, but I looked up the cost of an Arrma Infraction V2, and see they go for around $650 new? That's likely the current worth of your Clod the way it sits if put on eBay. Maybe even more if you get lucky. It all depends on who wants it bad enough.

Re: OG Clodbuster
That is the fun part of trades! It isn't really about actual value vs actual value. It is about making a deal that satisfies the interests of the parties. I have had Clods, and I own an Infraction, and for me, the Infraction has more value to me, and if I were in your boots, I would do the deal. But that is just me. The Infraction is just stupid fun to run. The Clod is, well, a Clod.
edit: The Infraction is stupid fun, but that comes at the cost of tires.

I build RCs like people would have done back in the '90s ..................................... if they had 3D printers.

Re: OG Clodbuster
Id keep the clod, but to be honest, the infraction style of rc's dont do anything for me at the moment.
Another thing to look at is the clod wont depreciate at all, its on the appreciation curve or pretty steady.
That Arrma or any newer vehicle depreciates pretty rapidly based on use and age and will possibly lower in value if a newer model comes out.

Re: OG Clodbuster
Like said above it's all about fairness to both parties getting what they want. There is no point in keeping the Clod if it's not something that your really interested in. In that case the infraction is a good trade pending the condition.
I would keep the Clod personally, but keep in mind this is a vintage forum where many would pick the Clod over the Infraction. I'm sure if you went to an Arrma forum or similar it would be the opposite.
In other words, follow your interests.

Re: OG Clodbuster
Thanks guys, I really appreciate all of the feedback.
That is exactly what I was looking for.
I wasn't as concerned about dollar value of the truck as I was giving/getting a reasonably fair trade. I didn't want to let a $1000 truck go for a $100 car and vice versa. Neither myself nor the other guy knew anything about the clod other than the fact that it is a clodbuster with an esp chassis.
I am very familiar with most modern RCs and have a decent size collection from the 6 years or so that I have been back into the hobby, but this older truck had me at a loss.
I only remember the truck as it was almost my first RC back in 1998-2001 when I was first looking to get into the hobby. I went with a Tmaxx with a Pro .15 nitro instead.
Anyways, I've decided to keep this in my collection (since i already have 2 infractions and 2 limitless anyways). After tinkering on it, I've come to appreciate the difference as compared to today's modern RC's and this will be the 1st monster truck in my collection.
I know I have alot to learn and will probably drive you guys nuts with questions over the next few months.
Thanks again.
