In 1979 Associated would close out its first decade with the release of the gas powered RC300. Building upon previous iterations of their 1/8th scale platform the RC300 would use the hourglass shaped fiberglass chassis, abs upper radio tray, and abs front bumper design of the RC200 while replacing nearly every other component on the car. The all-new front axle assembly consisted of a pair of molded nylon suspension arms, one piece hardened steel steering blocks and bolt on steering arms while the spherical rod ends, aircraft style threaded tie rods and large servo saver that made up the steering system was carried over from the RC200. The aluminum rear motor pod was updated and the supplied engine mount and flywheel was machined specifically for the larger K&B 3.5 (.21) engine. New, lighter, turbine style molded nylon wheels with foam tires and full bearings rounded out the kit. Engine, body and electronics were not included. During the production run an updated RC300BD would be released that included a ball differential rear axle assembly to replace the fixed hub axle:
