AYK's first off-roader, the Super Trail, was introduced in 1982 and offered as a Baja Bison buggy and American Pickup model. Constructed primarily of aluminum the Super Trail rode on a square tube aluminum ladder frame chassis with tubular cage work, aluminum double trailing arm independent front suspension, aluminum semi-trailing arm independent rear suspension, aluminum oil filled shocks on all four corners, and utilized a die-cast aluminum gearbox. Plastic on the Super Trail was sparse and generally limited to the waterproof radio box, 8 spoke wheels and nylon front bumper:
