I thought about that....but I am afraid it will clutter up the clean look..but it is an option!RogueIV wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2024 3:06 pmWhat if you ran one of those small high speed fans we use in stock racing to keep our motors from burning up and have that blasting on the head?coxbros1 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2024 1:23 pm Alot left to do..but got it running and driving....it starts real good with a pull start....brakes work good too but need a new servo...(case ears cracked)....big power when u open it up....cooling head doesn't seem to be keeping it cool enough tho...sux...might have to run the redhead and cut the body out....but it's progress..drives really well

Nitro Monster Beetle
Update: engine in the video was a 86' ish CZ2....it runs good but like I said earlier runs hot....so I switched to .12 CV redhead...it runs alot stronger....but it was being finicky...it's very old...but in good shape....So I dropped in a pretty new .18 with composite carb..(aluminum carbs tend to vapor lock after they get heat soaked)....what a screamer!..huge power...I ran it up and down the road several times where I could open it up...boy it moves...I havent clocked it yet but I will be surprised if it not in the low 50s....got it running real consistent on some Torco 10% at 225 degrees...now that it runs good...I can concentrate on getting everything tidied up....I havent put the ball diff in yet, the metal counter gear, and I need to change the brake servo to a better unit....and I might get some Factory Works rear shock mounts that go up at an angle...it will be better suited for this setup and I can use them as body mounts too....all in all it drives and works much better than I thought it would..could use a rear stabilizer too..inside front wheel comes off the ground when turning at higher speeds

What a seriously awesome build dude, and the execution… top notch for real

Who do you race for ?
Me……. I race for me.
That’s impossible, I was told you need a sponsor to race.
Hey Cru ! Go balls out

Re: Nitro Monster Beetle
....and it starts
I didn't want to spend any money on this one...but I am going for a certain look (that I can run hard)...that look is all factory, no flash, just the way Tamiya would have released it...the current engine with black case and blue head runs amazing..but it doesn't look right...so I dropped some coin on an authentic unit, a .18 K&B

Re: Nitro Monster Beetle
Got a few things done:
-bulletproof tranny (steel counter gear/MIP diff)
-new Savox brake servo
-new K&B .18 (haven't fired it)
-painted header black
Now it's starting to look like a proper vintage piece
Only one pic posted, not sure why it does that

Re: Nitro Monster Beetle
Stick a
in it!...this one's done and "Fest" ready
Runs perfect 41mph so far but it was really windy, I couldn't hang the guts out of it...10% nitro...always starts on the 1st pull

Re: Nitro Monster Beetle
That's gotta be the slickest nitro conversion to ever wear a Tamiya badge... if someone didn't know better they'd think it was factory.
Two thumbs up!

Love the geartrain sounds at off-throttle. Very mechanical. Beast!
Hope you're doin' something fun.
