"Modern" Brushless Motor with Vintage 1/12

Anyone tried to put a 'modern' brushless motor in a vintage pan car, like the Kyosho Plazma MKIII?

I don't see a whole lot of difference in the new Fantom re-re transmission from the original, whereas a lot of the updated vintage models are tweaked in this regard to handle brushless power. For example, if I drop one of those fancy new Le Mans 480Gs in my old school Plazma, is it a whole lot different from one of the original brushed motors with all else equal, i.e. a 6C NiCad battery stick pack? I have a newer Kyosho Plazma RA, and use the recommended Team Orion motor, and the thing is ridiculously overpowered, and unless you focus only on not breaking the rear end loose, have tons of traction, it's a donut-machine.

I chose a Trinity RevTech 17.5T motor and a 1S LiPo, which means it needed a special 1-cell ESC (Turnigy TrackStar) as most ESC's require 6.8 minimum volts or they won't even work. But yes, on 2S LiPo, unless you dial down the punch to near minimum, it would be practically undriveable. I built a second one of these for a lady who saw my car on turbobuick.com and wanted one to surprise her hubby, and that one was 2S. It was difficult to tame.

I chose a unique path for mine. I haven’t really run it much but I haven’t forgotten about it either. Finding round LiFe/LiPo/LiOn cells that fit the battery slots have proven challenging.

That's a cool little motor. What is that? Is it sensored or sensorless?

Unfortunately it's a sensorless outrunner, but it seems to work well. Any time the wheels spin the motor can spins for something different, plus it sounds different too.

it's neat looking though! probably helps smooth out throttle response a bit too since it has more rotating mass
