MY Yokomo Works 91 S.P.O.R.T for the Vintage Nationals

Post by siebenelch »

Hello there!

After a long search here in Germany I found a Yokomo Works 91 S.P.O.R.T.

This conversion kit was made by the german Genius Arne Schmiedeberg from Berlin.

It´s a ultra-long wheelbase chassis with 10 degree kick-up and have a special weight-distribution. The batteries are at the front of the chassis.

This chassis was the most succesfull car here in Germany at that time. At that time we drove very very bumpy tracks and the handling of the car was outstanding at this conditions.

Later they made the chassis for the Works 93 and at last the YZ-10 (German Champion 1999)

So I asked all people I know, who owned that car at that time. And I could found this car last week. Now I will bring the car back on the track with all my special-siebenelch-treatment. There is a lot of work to do to make it competitive for the Vintage Nationals.

So stay tuned for more news. If I am ready with the Yokomo, I will drive some races here to test the old machine.

Michael

Awesome car, but something is NOT screaming "vintage" about it. Maybe it's just me, though it is a '91 chassis... just seems out of place at a vintage meet. It looks like a car that could be racing today. Credit to Yokomo for being so advanced, though.

Don't mind me, I'm just picking nits.

Thanks!

maybe I get the car ready to drive a regional race coming weekend in the stock-class. I don´t want to overstress the drive-train with modified-motors. Haha!

Here are some new pics.

Hi Michael,
I noticed you have the suzuki C-carriers on the front.
How many degrees are they laying back?

Team suzuki made them in different angles: I have 2 sets with my YR-4 and use the ones with more kick-up for more stability on the straight (not sure if that's how it works  If anybody cares to explain, please? )

Are you sure the shockstays are for the YZ-10 not YR-4? they look slammed, but then again, that's your trademark ;)

Hi!

Thanks Kenooze, but I aready have the nylon-front bulkhead. At the rear I use the RPM-bulkheads. You can adjust the belt-tension with the RPM´s.

The S.P.O.R.T Chassis use a longer rear-belt, than stock.

The front hubs have 5 degrees. I use them, because there is more space for the Universals to get more steering angle and they are more durable, than the stock-plastics.

Yes, the shocks are very low. That is the philosiphy of this car. Low as possible. But that was not my idea. I think, I will make new shock stays for fitting the longer B4 shocks later.

My main-problem is to get the rims. I want the original Yokomo rims. And it´s hard to get them.

I love the look and the design of this car so much! It will be a good partner for my RC10.

If I provide a pic, can someone photoshop siebenelch's new rig flying high above my Hotshot???
Seriously, those Yokomos were ahead of their time! I'll have plenty of opportunities to watch it go by on the track.....

Hello and thanks, mates!

Last weekend there was a regional buggy-meeting, where I could test my Yokomo. Car made no problems and was running very well. But the long wheelbase and the weight-forward-concept makes jumps very difficult. In the 90´s there was no jumps in germany. Only very very bumpy tracks. At that time, the car had a big advantage on that tracks. Now it´s harder with flat and Jump-tracks.

I only tested the car at saturday-practice and drove at sunday my RC10. I could make the 7th place in the finals with it.

I could finally found the correct shock-towers and added Associated-shocks at the car. More pics later.

Have fun!

Thanks to Sebastian for the great pics!

Given your past project, I have a sneeky feeling that there is nothing "SPORT" about this. you always bring top level performing cars to the table! Looks Awesome!
