Tamiya MF-01x Beetle

Post by GoMachV »

Had a couple days of down time since I broke a coupler on my machine so I built up a kit from the stash. I didn’t really want the rally look but I liked the idea of a new 4x4 platform so I built it up as a street version. The chassis is interesting as you can build it as three (actually 4) lengths depending on the extensions you stack on it. The only part that changes is the drive shaft- they totally could have designed a sliding version. The rear motor 4wd should be fun with a mild brush motor.

The engineer that usually designs the rear upper camber links was apparently on vacation when they designed this thing. Everyone else was done and he had to fit it where he could

Now that's something I would not have expected..... good to see you playing with something different, mate!

I've built up a few of these; my first is a SWB version (208mm) which runs my Skoda WRC body (originally a Jimny kit):

The second I built up from old M-chassis parts and the necessary sprues as a MWB (225mm), which was going to be a Porsche 959 or Toyota Celica Gr.B - in homage to the old Tamiya chassis. However, after having it sitting on my shelf for a few months, I've decided that it will instead be built as a LWB (240MM), using a racing / rally VW similar to yours that I had sitting around. Will put up pics when it's done, but here's a teaser:

Plenty of hopups available for these.... can really waste a heck of a lot of cash!

Bringing up an old thread to ask about the wheels on the black VW. Are those still available? Who made them?
