I'm a little curious about the math - 60th Anniversary but first released in 87?

60th anniversary of the company not the kits

Here's a cool new build video from Kyosho with tips and optional parts. Also has Joel Johnson driving it at the end.

Re: 60th Anniversary Joel Johnson Ultima?!?!
Great video. I got the sense Akira said a lot more in Japanese about the reproduction project than the English subtitles provided. Several minutes of speaking yielded a couple english sentences, I would like to know what missed out on.
I also noticed the 87 Worlds Optima Mid on a shelf in the background. Perhaps there will be a similar video from Kyosho on this project.

Re: 60th Anniversary Joel Johnson Ultima?!?!
well darn... I had the video translated but apparently the link was very limited on time.
You can upload the youtube url to streamlabs.com/podcast-editor... and wait several minutes for it to process... when I uploaded it last night the transcription came out perfect. But this afternoon's attempt wouldn't translate. Best part was Akira explaining the chassis flaws... the frustration was comical, "just accept it."

Also, youtube can transcribe the video, just click the gear icon, select subtitles, then select translate and pick your language of choice. Not as good but... more than provided in the video.

Re: 60th Anniversary Joel Johnson Ultima?!?!
Yeah, I thought the 60th anniversary JJ ride was a typo too at first. The math just didn't add up! Wonder what Kyosho was making back in 1963? Control line planes? I don't think there were any RC gear yet, was there? If I remember correctly, by 1979 when I was a kid, RC cars were already well established and mainstream, so I guess in the 16 years between their founding and 1979 there were quite a lot of developments taking place. Wow, think how far we the hobby has come since those early days!

I just got notification that my preorder from Tower Hobbies has shipped. So I’ll have a second kit to keep new in box.

Thank you, that's the first one from tower I have heard ship out. Crossing fingers to see if they honor mine or not.

Re: 60th Anniversary Joel Johnson Ultima?!?!
I did not know this youtube function was there... It worked pretty well and got a little more flavor of his narration. I tried the translator on one of Akira's other videos about the Optima Mid and got some odd translations, such as substituting powdered milk for gear oil in your gear diff. I will have to try that

Ok, one transcription... minus video... but with time stamps so you can line each section up with the video. The dots are just spots where Akira isn't talking and music is playing... enjoy the read!

Tower has them in stock again. I emailed customer support to see if they could go ahead and fill my backorder.
