For me, the Lazer was the car I wanted to get when I I got into RC, but my parents got a JRX-T, which was the right move for 14 year old me, but I'm glad to finally see what I was missing 30 years ago.XLR8 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 22, 2023 12:13 pm I raced CATs bitd (SWB then XLS) then went on an extended hiatus from RC so I missed the whole Lazer era. I very much enjoyed beating the Mids and Yokes but I still appreciated their design and engineering. Today, I have three CATs and five Mids so I guess that says something.
Anyway, from what I've seen, the Lazer is superior in every way to the original Mid but I never developed that "good ole' days" connection to them.

I picked up the RC hobby with my dad back in the early '70's. It was planes then but I quickly moved to cars.
One day Kyosho will finish re-releasing all the Mids and maybe they will move to Lazers. If the do, I'm getting one - if I'm still alive.

If it's of interest to anyone, kyosho has the parts list, exploded view, and manual up on the support section of their website : http://kyosho.com/eng/support/instructionmanual/legendary/legendary_index.html
I searched a few part numbers I think might be specific to this kit, but those don't appear to be up, yet.

I don't suppose this or the aluminum brace fit the lazer. Do they?

Here are pictures of the new 87 WC Worlds Spec Ltd next to Akira's 87 original from the Tokyo Hobby fair. Sorry most of my photos focused on the original.

Those two screws at the front of the Upper Deck on Akira's Optima are interesting. The Rerelease kit has an M4 flathead hex screw with tapered washer, there. And maybe Akira's looks more substantial because I'm used to seeing a hex head instead of a slotted head.

Re: OPTIMA MID '87 WC Worlds Spec Ltd Ed.
Those are some great photos, thanks for posting them here.
It's a shame about the tires but I reckon suitable copies could be printed.
If I had a printer, I'd certainly give it a try.

Saying the quiet part out loud
I would like to see manufacturers include some of the racer hacks as optional. Static model car kits used to come with parts to build the car as it left the show room, but also custom wheels and tires, upgraded engine components, race decals, etc. The builder got the parts to build himself a Cuda, or a Sox and Martin Cuda.
I thought Kyosho would be the first to do it since they started down that path with the Optima (belts and chains- take your pick).

The black lead?
Some racers used to forgo connectors and just solder the leads directly to the battery, like many did/do to the motor. You can see the positive lead where the wires seem to tuck into the pad for the battery.

Re: OPTIMA MID '87 WC Worlds Spec Ltd Ed.
It's just the battery holder. The lead that goes between the battery and motor is sitting behind it making it look like it is a device but it is not. The small red wire runs back to the speed control. Airtronics appears to control power over the negative lead instead of the positive lead.
It's time to stand up to the bully. Support the companies that support the industry, not the ones that tear it down. Say no to Traxxas

This is nothing but a Kyosho money spinner - a green re-re Mid, that when you read the print doesn’t even come in green. It is absolutely nothing like the prototype ‘87 car. No thanks.1911Colt wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 11:37 amSaying the quiet part out loud

Does the ReRe Mid have ball diffs and universal swingshafts, or is that only in the special edition?
