I'm about to start a Clodbuster project

Post by DanInTheDirt »

So I am going to be building a a Clod kit I am wanting to upgrade things like the chassis as I can afford it I want to use CPEs Time Warp Chassis & 4 links as I want this to be a Retro Basher. Iam going to be running 3s Lipo brushed. I wanted to run Team Brood 550 motors will they fit any major issues? Looking at 10t to 25t same with team brood 540 Clodbuster matched motors also I'm not sure on what esc/s will run hotter motors that won't break my wallet. 🤔

Normally I love running outrunner motors but they are like diesels a ton of torque would break stuff & expensive to setup 2

1. Not sure how much clearance the timewarp with have with the lower 4-links, 550 cans might not fit or be a very tight fit at the very least. I'd email Brett at CPE and see if he can get you a measurement to compare to some motors.
2. Stock silver cans on 3s will have some good pep, but will probably run hot and may not last very long.
3. Hobbywing quickrun 880 is a popular speed control and is good for 3s operation (>18t motor limits on 3s).

Someone on the RC Crawler site contacted them about that. They said that was the single motor limit and that dual motor vehicles should double that.

For a dual brushed motor, I'd probably find a Novak Super Rooster. I want to say that it can handle dual 15T 540's. I think dual 12T 550's would be about the same, depending on the design.
Always looking for new and interesting ways to waste money.

Ah, I didn't realize that. Pretty much rules out any non-crawler motors on 3s... I don't think there is a great option for a dual motor brushed ESC running 3s. Super Rooster would work with higher turn motors as you said but they are getting old and hard to find, and will have no support.

Maybe contact Tekin and see if the RX4 can be used with dual brushed motors. With it's extremely high specs, I can't see why it wouldn't.
