RC10 with RC10gt gearbox?
So I just purchased a 6gear RC10 (minus electrics) from Etsy for $170. I've had most the pieces for a 6gear RC10 that I got 25 years ago, but I'd been too afraid to do anything with it lately.
The one I just bought says in the listing that it has a B - stamped chassis. Unless I'm mistaken, I should be able to bolt a stealth gearbox to it without drilling any holes?
Also...would I be able to bolt an RC10GT gearbox to it without drilling the chassis? The RC10 WC stealth gearboxes/components appear pretty expensive and hard to find now.

Yes a B stamp tub will be for a stealth trans. It’ll bolt right in no drilling required.
Who do you race for ?
Me……. I race for me.
That’s impossible, I was told you need a sponsor to race.
Hey Cru ! Go balls out

An RC10 stealth will fit but the GT stealth won't fit as it's completely different, it uses a different transmission case and a differential.

What would you like to do with the car? If the 6 gear you have is in good shape build the car as you have it and work on replacing with a stealth over time.
Vintage parts are available for good prices, but it takes time to find them and they get snapped up quickly. It's a trade off between how fast you want to finish a build and how much you can spend on it.

Not a direct fit. Shown with Stealth drill template and B chassis.

Re: RC10 with RC10gt gearbox?
I've always wanted to throw a brushless on it. I've read a bunch of posts on here about toughening up the 6gear, but I'm still reluctant to put a brushless on it. I have bunch of spare 6gear internals boxed up in a closet. I might buy an aftermarket aluminum 6gear housing and hope for the best.
Realistically, what's the fastest castle creation motor a modified 6gear could handle? Something like a 3800 or 4200kv or something? I think little would be cooler than out running the stock Traxxas cars at the park with an old vintage buggy.

What about the RC10DS stealth gearbox? Would that bolt onto the B-chassis? I'm just trying to figure out what to keep an eye out for.

Re: RC10 with RC10gt gearbox?
no it won't work. None of the nitro gear boxes will work. The gear boxes that would work are 6gear, stealth, MIP, Lethal weapon, RPM gearbox. There might be some others I am not thinking of off the top of my head but the 6 gear is gonna be the cheapest. Pry won't touch a stealth for under $100 anymore unless its in pretty sad shape. The others are just gonna get higher priced over the associated trannys. Jeff from Factory Works aka GoMachV (replied above) is working on a stealth look alike trans case that will take the b5 diff I believe. Shouldn't be too long down the road but not sure the release date yet.

Re: RC10 with RC10gt gearbox?
Correction. An Rc10DS transmission will work as it's an original stealth for buggy. An RC10NDS is a nitro car and the same trans as a gt trans and will not fit.

Re: RC10 with RC10gt gearbox?
Yeah, Thanx for the clarification Joe. For some reason somewhere on here I seen rc10NDS for my reply...DOH!

To expand on a stealth transmission. The rc10, rc10ce, rc10worlds, rc10t, rc10ds are all the same stealth trannys. Once you get into any rc10b2 and later, rc10t2 and later, any nitros at all they are not drop in/bolt in without some modifications...mostly major mods.

Re: RC10 with RC10gt gearbox?
I don 't think the case would be an issue, it the internals that would be what to watch out for. The 6 gear has a much lower drive ratio than most modern cars ~1.9:1 vs 2.6:1 if you are also running modern 2.2" tires the final drive ratio will be quite high.Swipe555 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 9:42 pmI've always wanted to throw a brushless on it. The 2013 re-release has a similar transmission to the original one you have and associated rated to down to an 8.5t brushless (~5300kv)
That's a fair bit of power. Hitting something with the speed that can make would likely damage something. The stealth would let you push a bit more power through it but it's still not a great idea.If you feel the need to run more than that you may just want a modern car.

Re: RC10 with RC10gt gearbox?
Welp, I just dropped some money on an MIP SP-1 gearbox with a GD-100 and TC-100. I did some research and I'm 90% sure it'll fit on the RC10 B chassis. Worst case scenario, I'll just sell it. If nothing else, a small loss will teach me another lesson about hasty purchases.
Is the SP-1 better than the factory world stealth? Did I just waste some money on something that isn't quite as good?
I'm still planning to run a low KV motor. Probably something like 3800 or 4700.

I haven't run an MiP, but I think repair parts are probably harder to find for the MiP gearbox than for the AE gearbox.
