Rulon disc & diff drive rings (Stealth rebuild)
Hello all,
How do you determine if a rulon clutch disc and diff drive rings need to be replaced?
I'm in the middle of rebuilding a stealth transmission and dont want to unnecessarily replace parts.

Im assuming it would be frowned upon to post this question in a different section of the board...
Does anyone know if there is a better forum to ask this question?

Re: Rulon disc & diff drive rings (Stealth rebuild)
Does anyone have pics of pads and rings that are in need of being replaced or sanded?
How much glazing is too much?
What would be the proper grit sandpaper to use?

Bringing this back from being long dormant.
It may just require experimentation to know. For the slipper at least you would de- glaze the pads with some sandpaper then rebuilt the slipper.
If the slipper can't be finely adjusted then it would be time to replace it. By finely adjusted I mean that you can dial in between some slipping and all the way locked down. A worn pad will only let you have way to much slip and fully locked down. Though the slipper spring can be a part of this as well.
Getting replacement pads seems to be difficult. Some vintage Associated spares popup on ebay. As well robinson racing seems to have sold pads that work on Assocaited an Losi.
The only modern solution I have seen is from kid again selling carbon fiber pads. These look to be regular carbon fiber sheets precisely cut to fit the v1 slipper. I have one and I am happy with its performance.
The original pads are just circles cut in Rulon material. It's easy enough to buy from McMaster carr. The circle shape of the slipper disk creates a lot of waste. Rulon sheets are pricey making it expensive to cut your own since you would have to throw away most of a sheet.

I suspect that the carbon fiber disk is a crossover from fishing reels. The rulon drags are commonly replaced with carbon fiber.
There are also special greases (Cal's) made for baitcast reel drags. It makes them smoother, without losing much strength. I've wondered how it would work with a slipper.
