Team Orion 3.5T Motor in Turbo Optima re-re?
Just took my Kyosho Plazma RA for a spin & without enough traction I can barely get past 50% throttle before I spin. It's a bit over-powered with the TEAM ORION VORTEX 3.5T brushless motor. I'm wondering how it'd do in my Turbo Optima re-re instead... The Le Mans 240s I run in that is smooth & the car handles great, but it's a little slow. Would going from 15.5T to 3.5T be completely insane though? Forgive my inexperience with the finer points of brush-less motor power... Back in the olden days, I could swap motors I used in my 1/10 buggies & 1/12 pan-cars & it was pretty much 13-15T vs. 18-21T so it wasn't a gigantic difference. Now I pretty much buy what the manufacturer recommends & leave it alone...3.5T motors didn't exist. Will I just completely shred my transmission & fry my ESC?

I think the tranny will be fine but not sure on that esc
Its worth a try and will be fun no matter what happens!

What's the point of overpowering a car to the point it's undriveable?

My brother put a 4.5 in his newly built Avante and made 1 pass....that thing was going so fast thin it flipped and slid on its roof forever! needless to say it came out immediately afterwards

Re: Team Orion 3.5T Motor in Turbo Optima re-re?
I'm building an original Turbo Optima with rere drivetrain to use as a runner, I opted to run Kyosho's high velocity gear with it. That is the blue spur gear, 41 tooth pinion and OT206b high velocity chain guides and gear cover. For added slip/protection I'm running a rear ball diff. With all that, I didn't plan on running anything faster than an 8.5 turn.

Re: Team Orion 3.5T Motor in Turbo Optima re-re?
I don't want it to be uncontrollable. It's hard to have a frame of reference since I've only experienced a 3.5T motor in the 1/12. My Turbo Optima is definitely too slow with the 15.5T, so I just had the thought. It sounds like it wouldn't be a good idea though. I'll make a pinion switch & see how it performs on the track before I make any decisions about replacing the motor. Maybe the better swap is to stick the 15T LeMans into the 1/12 & find something more in the 12T ballpark for the Optima. Thanks all!

A 10.5 turn would be an ideal motor for the optima. Not too fast, not too slow.
