Flying Point Ena 3D

Post by GoMachV »

Found this Ena 3D on eBay with a story that assembly had been started and never finished. I figured there had to be a reason but took the chance anyway. It arrived yesterday and I couldn’t help finishing it- everything was there

It’s not the cleanest design, and it’s surely not the strongest. The rear bumper was broke in half just due to age and weak plastics. I think some heat will help when I go to bend the front bumper. A couple tires have flat spots which I think i can fix with some foams. I figured I would post some pics because when I search the name on here we only seem to have shock info. I’ll post up more pics as I complete the bumper repair and get the body mounted. It’s a poor copy of the mini mustang and made from some really bad material. Also shown are the gearbox where the idlers lack bushings or bearings, and the motor screws are impossible to reach. It came with three plastic pinion gears.

The drive system layout is similar to a Yankee Electra however the entire suspension is different and the quality much worse.

It’s a really delicate old car, and parts are nonexistent. it will just live out its life on a shelf.

Are you also gonna get the 2D version? You could probably tack it on your wall.

That's so cool , I've seen on another forum at some point , the chassis is quite distinctive ! Please can you show any details of the 2 speed system , maybe from the manual if you don't want to strip the car down ?
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.

There is no 2 speed. Quite a let down. I suspect the speed control was a 2 speed. Interestingly enough all the pics of the car in the manual and such show an esc, and nowhere is there a place for a throttle servo.

I was looking at that, and I though "I've seen that before somewhere".... and my mind (usually only useful for stopping my scalp from touching my spine) threw up Yankee Electra. Had a look, and there are some definite similarities....

Take a look at this one on TamiyaClub: https://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=86712&id=4547... certainly not the same, but enough styling queues to show lineage.

If I had to guess, I would say Flying Point copied (rather than licensed) the Yankee product, making enough changes to call it their own.

Certainly no expert, but thought I'd share.

Flying point was infamous for stealing concepts and designs. They had a 10L clone, the Pizazz were Traxxas copies, etc.

How do the wheels fit on this: standard cros-pin and 12mm hex, or something which could easily be converted to that?
