Royal Ripper

Post by mikijh »

Hi everyone - i also have a royal ripper that I used to enjoy, the 4 wheel drive and steering is cool. I have been thinking about selling this car also and putting the funds into acquiring something new. Is there a market for this car?

Thanks

Feel free to restore it and put up a thread documenting the process, we all love to see that. Ahh, we loved to call it "The Royal Ripoff"...pretty shameless clone of the Hotshot.

I always get a kick out of it being called a hotshot clone. Besides the front knuckles and shock plastics not much else is even close to fitting. The hotshot was mid motor. Cantilever monoshock rear. Completely different diffs. Ripper had 4 wheel steering with dual bellcranks. Hotshot had no cranks. Exposed servos in the ripper, sealed chassis on the hotshot. I’m sure they had a pic of the hotshot around when they designed it, but I’d have a really hard time calling it a copy or a clone. It was a really poorly engineered car and I love em for it lol.

Well, design elements notwithstanding, the marketing and appearance tell a different story. Do you not believe there was at least SOME attempt to capitalize on the Hotshot's success?

There's one on eBay right now going for £200 +PnP , been there a while and not moved so I guess the answer is its worth less than £200 to sell a bit of your childhood , clean and restore it , as said above we'd all love to see that restoration thread !

IMO they definitely copied the hotshot as much as possible. I do dig them, that back shock in the cab is quite a sight!
