Are 870/YZ10, 91, to 94 parts interchangeable?
I'm not as familiar with the early Yokomo off-road cars and have started reading up on it (and checking the forum). Regarding the 1987 YZ870C Super Dog Fighter and YZ10, I understand that some parts are interchangeable. How far does it go where parts such differentials, center shaft (and everything that's part of it i.e., spur, gear adapter, hub, pulley, etc.), and perhaps other key parts are interchangeable? Life if I can't find 870 and YZ10 specific parts, can I substitute some of these moving parts for '91 to even '94 parts? Thanks.

I am going from memory here (always a bit dangerous) but I believe the basic chassis were identical. They each came with different bodies and the wheels were white on the Associated car while the Yoke version had pink wheels. I don’t remember any other things being different. I bought the Yoke as soon as it came out and I used parts from Associated and Andy’s to keep it running because they were more readily available and less expensive.

Thanks! Been struggling finding parts, partly because I’m unfamiliar with the different chassis and what parts can be re purposed. I hope more can chime in as well.

Re: Are 870/YZ10, 91, to 94 parts interchangeable?
the 870c and yz10 cars between 88 and 93 interchanged for the most part, the bulkheads and drivetrain were pretty much the same with slight differences. 94-95 cars had some major front end changes along with some dramatic rear suspension geometry changes.
for the most parts, the division follows with two different wheel offsets, so watch for that as well.
there are two other cars that can be utilized. the YR4 touring car shares the same drivetrain and hubs, with shorter arms and shocks, towers and universals. there are a few permutations and the chassis and bulkhead caps are different but usable.
The hot dog is a hybrid of the 870c and the yr4 chassis.
most guys swapped out yokomo shocks for associated on the early models, and the later shocks were very close construction to the associated ones anyway, so if you are looking for shocks you can just use the associated ones.

Thanks, jwscab! That's really helpful. At least that now expands the parts pool I can look into and I just have to be cautious depending on what part to mix.
